Hello,
I had a partial nissan fundoplication on Oct 16, 2004. Had to eat yogurt and liquids for a while. I have had no complications and have not had reflux or heartburn since. I was on Nexium 40mg 2X a day at the time of surgery. I have not taken any meds since either. I had mine done at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. I don't remember much about the pain, but obviously it was handled. I have severe barretts. I have to go back to my Gastro Dr. for a follow up endoscopy, but I haven't yet. I know, I know thats not good, but I will go back soon. I can honestly tell you that this operation saved my life. I hope this helps. Ann

I had a fundoplication about 1 year ago. It was generally a textbook type recovery. I lost about 10 pounds during the recovery. Since then, I have gained it back. I went back to work on day 9 for a few hours and then all day on day 10. Make sure that the surgeon requests every diagnostic test so they know all of the conditions being faced. Some of the tests are not very pleasant, but worth it for the education of the trained surgeon. My long term complaint seems to be that where the valve is so tight now, I build up more gas and there is only one exit for it. And it is not by burping. It has become a bit embarassing and stinky at times.
