Can Brussels sprouts be cooked any other way besides boiling. Can you microwave them, and though i've always had them boiled can you eat them raw like Brocolli or Carrots. Thanks for any pointers on this powerhouse vegetable....

Steamed would be best, I'd imagine.
Vegetables tend to lose most of their nutritive value when boiled.
I steam everything; I have a steamer basket that fits in the pot, so that the vegetables never touch the water.

Try roasting them in the oven, they are great that way, check on the web for recipes for roasting, plus I made some for Thanksgiving that were partially steamed, then sauteed with bacon chopped up, and onions, and red wine vinegar those were very good.

I steam mine, and they are my very favorite vegetable...but they keep getting more and more expensive.

Do not eat them raw...there is an enzyme in the cabbage family that is deactivated by heat. Also the delicious taste of Brussels Sprouts is developed only with heating.

I don't care for brussel sprouts, so I can't attest to this recipe, but a friend of mine cuts them in half and sautees them in a skillet with 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and 1/2 tablespoon butter, cut sides down. She sprinkles them with a little salt and pepper when they're cooking.

This side dish gets rave reviews from our mutual friends who enjoy this at her house on Thanksgiving.

they're nice steamed, then chopped up and mashed with potatoes with nutmeg.
