View Full Version : Tongue issues - GERD?

I have had acid reflux for quite some time....my normal symptoms are burping, hiccuping and heartburn of course. Sour stomach every now and then, and nausea.

I've always attributed my burping and hiccuping to GERD...does anyone else have this?

My REAL question though...I have all this ....I dont know what to call it..this build-up of crap on the back of my tongue. Sometimes I have to scrape a nail (or a straw) across it to get all this stuff off because it drives me nuts. I can feel it almost all the time. I brush my tongue constantly but sometimes that doesnt even help. I thought it was thrush but I was told it's not. Someone else said it's due to the acid reflux....

Is this the case and what can I do about it? I take Prilosec OTC periodically but it's so expensive I only try to take it when I'm having a hard time with the heartburn.

TIA for any insight!

Well even though I have no idea what it is I thought this might be of interest. I bought some new tooth brushes -"Colgate 360 degrees" The front part is the brush and the back of the head has a surface meant for scraping your tongue. It does work and sounds better than using a nail or straw. Got these at Costco.

I have that too. My acupuncturist looked at my tongue and she pointed it out, and said it was due to my stomach issues.
