Hi everyone My story is probably different than most.

Im 22/m. I never wore glasses until i was 20 when for some odd reason I couldnt read my exam paper. I couldnt complete the exam and immediately afterwards I went and got my eyes tested. The results showed I was long sighted but i didnt believe it. Im from a family of six kids including a twin brother who are all but one older than me by 10-20 years and none of them have ever worn glasses. Mum and dad wear glasses for reading but they are 60 and never needed them when they were young! Until recently I basically never wore glasses except when doing hw when i need to read small print and exams and i have been getting away with it. But the last week my vision seems to have detiorated even more. I have trouble reading msgs off my phone when its dark and reading text off a computer etc. Its such a pain! I hate glasses. Im quite a vain person and they really dont suit me one bit! Why me and noone else in the family? People suggested contacts but they sound like they'd be a hassle. I want to look into laser eye surgery but ive been advised its very expensive, painful and can be risky.

What are your thoughts?

Try disposable contacts for awhile and see what you think. What do you have to lose?
All surgery comes with some risks, but I don't think laser surgery is painful. I would suggest you investigate it, but it's not a good idea to have corrective surgery until you are a little older because the eye can continue to change well into your twenties.

Or try to think of glasses as a fashion accessory that give you an intellectual air.

contacts are great! My son 19,wore glasses for years because he couldn't even put eye drops in his eyes without sqinting! Well... low and behold, after taking him 2 years ago for contacts,he finds them so easy to wear. They teach you how to put them in and take them out,he went for training at the eye doctors,& at visit 4 he was a pro! Good Luck :)

I'm 62 and had lasik on both eyes. I was near sighted and had astimatism. Without glasses I could read the serial number on a flea's back but couldn't see ten feet. After lasik I have to use reading glasses to work on small objects or read small print because old eyes just won't refocus enough anymore.
The operation cost $299.00 per eye here in Smyrna Ga. They made one eye see far and one see closer but I wish I had told them to make both the same because I play golf and tracking a flying ball is difficult.
