View Full Version : Please help! Could it be hormonal??

Over the last several months I have been very dizzy and lightheaded off and on. When I went to see a doctor about it he said my blood pressure was very low, especially when I was standing. He didn't have much to say about it besides the fact that it probably isn't seriuos and there isn't much I can do about it.
Since then I've started to notice I'll feel like this for about 2 weeks and then I'll feel fine for 2 weeks and so on. I'm starting to wonder if it could have anything to do with my hormonal cycle or is this just a coincidence? I had a baby 7 months ago and I'm wondering if something could have changed in my body that's making this happen. Whatever it is is irritating me. It's not easy taking care of an infant when you feel like you could black out at any time.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated! I'm dying to get some answers. Thank you!

I really think we'd be speculating as to what causes your pressure to go low- the 2 week on/2 week off cycle does suggest hormones as a possibility in a female. There's a condition called neurally mediated hypotension that some people have- you may want to do a web search on that, though I doubt you have it - more likely just run of the mill low blood pressure.

Mebsys,

Is there any particular reason why youe might be restricting salt intake?

How is your pressure when you are sitting or reclining? What kind of numbers?

Other than increasing the volume of the bloodstream with antidiuretics like salt, there is no treatment for orthostatic (postural hypotension.) There is no problem with it except dizziness and fainting and unless these get troublesome, most people just live with it.

Nope, I'm not restricting salt intake. I wish I could remember the numbers he gave me but I was dumb and didn't really take note of it. I think it was something over 80 and I know it was lower when I stood up than when I layed down.

I have figured I'll just have to live with it. Is it safe to assume that it will probably go up as I age though and I won't always have to deal with it? It just makes me nervous that my heart isn't pumping blood efficiently enough for my brain!
