You know, I always had ice cream & yogurt & cheese my entire life. Now,every time I eat it, I get gas..even when taking lactaid. I'm starting to think that maybe milk is just not as good for you as once thought!!! Whenever I knock it out f my diet, I feel better & also break out way less. They say that milk leads to fat loss. Well, when I stay away from it, I lose a little weight. Anyone have similar feelings on milk?

I switched to soymilk, and it took a little getting used to. I like it now though....

Every one at birth produces lactaid so they can digest their mother's milk. But at age 1 to 2 certain peoples/races etc. lose this enzyme and become lactose intolerent. Now i've read reciently where some people who retain the lactase enzyme into adulthood for some reason also loose this enzyme in their 30's,40's 50's and so on. I never been lactose intolerent but now if i don't consume milk products for several months then have milk/ice cream i get bad stomach pains but then it goes away after that episode so probably my lactase enzyme was down regulated until i consumed milk products etc.....

aries... I don't believe in milk at all. Come to think of it, every time I see it on TV I feel like I'm gonna hearl. Have you ever tried other types of milk like almond, coconut or rice? Coconut milk tastes like heaven and I really enjoy almond. I also heard that goats milk is really good. At least you don't get the puss and nasty crap that's in normal milk... just give one a try and see what you think, I'm sure you'll be very pleased.

ariesgirly,
Anyone who gets gas from milk is probably digesting it poorly. Nobody except calves actually NEEDS milk and avoiding all the extra saturated butterfat might be a pretty good idea.
Does CHEESE effect you the same way?
I have a healthy friend who decided several years ago to have ZERO milk products. She is doing very well.

I try to drink very little milk, but I do want a glass occasionally or put it in a chai latte, so I use organic lactose-free skim milk. Organic because it has no antibiotics or growth hormones. Regular milk or skim milk bothers me, but I do very well on this kind. Also, I think that drinking lactose-free works better than taking the lactaid pill.

Aries Girl,
I have actually been considering going off of cows' milk for the same reason. I used to love milk--I drank it all the time when I was younger. Now, at 26 years old, it seems to make me a little nauseated and gassy after drinking it. I have tried soy milk, but it tastes horrible to me--I want to gag when I drink it. I love coconut, almonds and rice, so I may look into these alternatives. I have also been greatly reducing caffeine consumption for some time now, and I am trying to reduce processed sugar intake, as well.
I have heard so many positives about reducing/eliminating cows' milk from the diet, and I am a health nut by trade, so I am always trying to improve my eating habits. Let me know what you decide to do and if it helps you.
Take Care,
Colleen

Well, I will really just miss my grated cheese & yogurt. Other than that, I can deal without it! I just cannot help but to think it might not be as good for you as what the media says!

Aries Girl,
I agree with you about the media selling us the notion that we will die without cow's milk...or lose our arms from lack of calcium like that man in one of the commercials :p . I don't think that cow's milk is very good for people to drink, either. Most milk products contain puss from the cow, most likely steriods that have been shot into the cow, and many other unwanted things. Basically, whatever the cow eats, you will eat (or drink :p ).
Now that I have sufficiently made myself sick with these words, I will go pour myself a tall glass of...vegetable juice... ;)

Yes, I tend to think that if milk was just milk and nothing nasty added, it wouldn't be so bad for us. :)
