View Full Version : Center Bluriness at Night

Since I can remember, when it's very dark around me (such as lying in bed), I seem to have trouble seeing the center of my vision. The center seems blurred and distorted, and if I want to view something, I'd have to look a few inches off from it. From what I've noticed, it only seems to happen when there is barely any light in the room.

My grandfather has MD, but I'm only in my teens so I really can't see it affecting me. Although, anything is possible.

Thank you.
Kevin.

When you look directly at an object, you're using your macula which is made of almost all cone photoreceptors. When you look off to the side a little, you're focusing the image on an area next to the macula where there is many more rod photoreceptors. The rods are much more sensitive to light than the cones, that's why you sometimes see things better when looking off to the side when it is dark. This is why sometimes you can't see a star when you look right at it, but you can see if you look just to the side of it.
