DS is 11 weeks old and has a slight cough, and I mean slight. He is barely coughing but it is a cough. I don't know if I should call the Doctor or if I am being silly. He is eating, playing and doing everything normally. He doesn't sit there and cough, just cough here and there. I don't know what to do. I feel like I am being silly to call the Doc when he seems fine and he only coughs a tad bit. but I am paranoid! TIA!

I wouldn't call just yet, I would wait and see if any other symptoms occur. If he starts not eating right, runny nose, stuffy, fever, worse coughing etc... then I would call, he may just have a dry throat or something like that, I know we have forced hot air for heat, and your throat gets very dry at times. good luck

check the temp - anything 100.4 or more call the Doc asap.

I might wait as well, At that age, Jack started coughing because he learned how to! Trust your instincts.

Like Dizzy said, at that age he may just have figured out how to cough! DS was always clearing his throat at that age. Keep your eye on it, but it sounds like its probably nothing

Sounds like he might be just testing his vocals maybe? 11 weeks hes about.. almost 3 months right? my son, who is 2 now.. but back then.. he got his first tooth at 3 months, teething can cause coughing sometimes.. that might be another reason why.. if not that.. if theres no present of a runny nose then i wouldnt worry. I think the runny nose comes along with a cough if hes getting sick. Check his temp every so often and if it reaches 100 or higher then call the doc. but i think he'll be fine... but if your worried, and ive done it before.. ive called the doc and worried for no reason at all.. its not wrong.. your a mother and we worry.. go upon your instincts..

you should ask your doctor at what temp you should call, cause 100 is not HIGH for a baby, higher temps even though scary are different for babies, then adults. how is baby feeling?

Hmm. My girls are 4 weeks old now, and will intermitently cough or sneeze (not often, maybe once or twice a day). I think it's because they're still so young and are still getting all the gunk out of their nose and throats from when they were still inside of me. They haven't shown any other symptoms (fever/cold, fussiness), so I haven't bothered calling the doctor about it because they seem very healthy otherwise. But it all comes down to mother's intuition. If you feel there is a need to call the doctor, then do it. I'm sure your baby's pediatrician has had mom's call for a lot less significant things. And it's better to feel safe than sorry.

Thanks ladies I feel better. I have been monitoring his temp. (he doesn't have one) and he seems fine, very happy the past few days so he appears to be feeling well.
Thanks again ladies!

My son seems to cough just for attention sometimes....when he sneezes or coughs, I say "bless you!" or "Oh my goodness!" and he seems to find it funny. He's even had a minor cold before and it was really nothing to get worried about....but the other day when he had the flu, he was breathing really funny and broke out in hives....I took him to the hospital (since it was late at night) and got that boy checked out! I wasn't about to regret NOT getting him checked out and have something happen. I'd rather look like an over-worried mom, then say, man I wish....

Sometimes I feel like I am too overprotective, but I say go with your gut. Sometimes it's just a cold (or a little attention getting on a baby's part :p)....and sometimes I like to hear a doctor say "It's nothing to worry about"

:)

Thanks Lex Lude, I too sometimes feel overprotective but like you said I'd rather not say "I wish I would've".
He seems fine so I didn't take him in also because everytime I thought about just taking him in he wouldn't cough or sneeze or anything for a couple hours and I just felt like I was being paranoid! Thanks again!
