My doctor switched me from Aciphex to Protonix because the Aciphex was making me feel worse. Is it possible for one PPI to work differently than another? Has anyone switched and gotten better results? I thought they were all pretty much the same?

I spent two months on Protonix and for me, it didn't work very well. I'm on Nexium now and the difference is significant, even in the short week and a half since I started the Nexium.

I agreed, Nexium is better than Protonix.

Nexium 2x a day gave me beautiful recovery. When I told my doctor that I had achieved 95% recovery from LPR with the Nexium, he said "well, let's try to make that 100%" and let's give Protonix a try. I used Protonix 2x a day for 2 weeks and had a total relapse. I went back to the Nexium, which is wonderful.

I'm just the opposite Nexium didn't work for me but Protonix does the job. Nexium also made me feel woosie all the time, not sure what that was about.

So I guess everyone is different. Hopefully the Protonix will work for me.

How long have you all taken these drugs and how long before you saw results?

It took a good month before mine started working enough to control the pain - I will belch quite abit :o but no where near as much as I use to. I've been on them several months now and very seldom have the reflux and pain - not totally w/o but infrequent enough I can manage.

I have been taking Protonix for 4 months and although I have improved I still have periods lasting several days when I am not very good. I am getting a endoscopy next week and depending on the results I am going to talk to the gastro doc about trying Nexium.

I have tried it all and the only thing for me that even came close to working is Aciphex...I was taking 20 mgs a day at the same time, and it worked great, but due to the fact that I do not have insurance, I couldn't afford it anymore..I have to many other expensive medications for various issues and unfortunately I had to give up Aciphex, I am waiting to hear if I am approved from the drug companies to receive all my meds free or close to it, I have to take 10 different drugs and its very costly..Good luck to any of you that can afford any medication, its gotten far too expensive to be sick, but we can't help it...

If you don't mind me asking, were you taking Aciphex because you had erosion in your esophagus or just because you have GERD? And what are you doing to help in the meantime while you aren't taking any Aciphex?
I have mild erosion and want to stop taking these meds for a while to try and get pregnant but I'm afraid of what will happen to my esophagus during that time.
