View Full Version : Concern re: FSH Levels

I will turn 33 soon and did my first IUI this month (I'm still in 2ww). I've never had my fsh level tested. I have read all kinds of bad things about having high fsh level and I'm starting to worry about this because I will be 33 soon.

What I would like to know if there are any signs of high v. low fsh level even without the blood test??

My doctor said I responded will to 100 mg Clomid (days 5-9) plus Follistim (75mg days 5, 7, 9 and 11). I also had an antral follicle count total of 14, which my doctor said was normal. I ended up with 2 to 3 mature follicles.

Does this mean that I shouldn't worry about high fsh, or could I have a high fsh level without knowing it even though I responded fine to the medications.

I'm trying not to worry about this but I've read so much on the internet about fsh that I'm starting to get worried. Also, what age does fsh usually start to rise?

Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Nancy,

I'm not sure if I can offer any info, but from my understanding there really isn't an official age when the FSH rises. That blood test shows the quality and quantity of the eggs. I don't know of any symptoms of high or low FSH.

I'm surprised your RE never checked your FSH level. Especially since you're doing an IUI. I just got my FSH checked yesterday and will be starting IUI next cycle. I too was worried about having a high FSH b/c my sister was diagnosed with having "old eggs" (ovarian reserve, or premature ovarian failure) and was afriad I'd fall into the same boat. I heard it was genetic.

If you're really concerned I'd ask your RE to test you, but then you'll have to wait til your AF shows. But since you had an IUI- lets hope AF never shows. :)

Good luck

Thanks pinkie1, for the post.....My RE said he would test prior to IVF, but thought it wasn't necessary for me due to my age and the fact that I don't smoke.

I think since you responded to the drugs well, that's a good sign that everything is normal. I have friend who had high FSH and she didn't respond to very high amounts of stimulants.
