I don't understand these. Are you all been to this kind of assessment? I haven't seen a post related to Gastroscopy - Pre Admission Clinic procedure?

The appointment is for the anaesthetic review and is an assessment by the anaesthetist. What they're going to assess? Why not assess by the Gastroenterologist? The whole main thing is gastroscopy not sleep therapy. What they're going to do? I look at the post, it is not a major surgery? I'm very scare. Are they going to draw blood? Are they going to find a good vein? Is he going to tell how to prepare prep? Anyone can tell what they want?

If a gastroscopy is the same thing as an endoscopy (where they stick the camera down your throat), then I did not have any sort of pre-anesthetic assessment. I saw the gastroenterologist and he ordered an ultrasound, endoscopy, and bloodwork (done on three separate days in different places). The gastroenterologist did the endoscopy himself. The sedation was IV demerol and versed. I just showed up, they took my pulse, temp, and blood pressure, and then went on with it.

It's really not scary at all. Well, it's scary to think about. But you're going to be sedated and you won't remember a thing. I went in and put on a gown and they did the BP and stuff. Then they put in the IV and took me into the procedure room. The nurse had my lay down on my left side. There's this plastic mouthpiece with a hole in it so you don't bite the tube, and it has velcro straps to keep it in place on your head. So she had me lift my head to put the strap underneath it, but didn't put the thing in my mouth yet. Then she checked with the doctor to make sure he was ready and gave me the drugs. You get a momentary spinny happy feeling, and then the next thing you know you're in the recovery area. I don't remember anything at all about the procedure. I went home and slept for a few hours. I did have a sore throat the next day, but that was the worst of it. I didn't have any stomach pain or anything afterwards. Ate normally with no problems.

I know that sedation can be scary, but you seriously won't remember any of it, and you aren't at any risk. They have you hooked up to monitors the whole time.

Hi,

Kehornier is right. There is nothing to be scared about. I have had either 3 or 4 endoscopy. Where they put a tube down your throat and can take pics and biopsies of your esophagus, stomach, and the other near by parts. You are totally knocked out. You have to have someone take you and bring you home.

Do not worry.

Thanks for the reply.

Dr said my tonsil had gone (must be disappeared by itself because I never had a tonsillectomy) so do I still get sore throat after the procedure? I won't get fever easily, only sore throat will raise my temperature.

Other than biopsies, would they going to take away my gall bladder or other organs without telling me? I saw people posted said that removed their gall bladder while they were in the endoscopy procedure, is that true? I suspected in one of my General Anaesthetic, someone had taken my tonsil. In the referal note said "tonsillectomy"! Who and when, without my consent? Very scary!
