zosolizard 03-23-2006, 02:21 PM I do pretty darn well & almost never need a xanax during the day - whether at work or at home.
But I notice that every day - anytime between 4pm & 7pm, I start getting that "feeling" in my chest. All anxious & pent up. Like a panic attack will be coming next. So I take 1/2 xanax.
Does anyone else have patterns ? Or - is my body just asking for Xanax at the same time every day now ??? :jester:
Jonev11 03-23-2006, 02:26 PM I have noticed that my anxiety is almost never in the morning before 11:00. and usually it is less right before I go to sleep as well. So I would say the times when anxiety stirke would be between 12:00pm and 10:00pm with especially bad times between 3:00 and 7:00 I would say.
I imagine that it is really just a slow build up through the day until it finally hits worst point and then slides back until I go to sleep at which point the cycle starts over for a new day.
SRMom 03-23-2006, 02:55 PM My anxiety is worse in the afternoon/evening too. I think mine is that way because that's when my son and husband come home and they both need my time, attention and I still need to be cooking dinner, doing dishes, and god-forbid the phone rings and someone else wants a part of me :) I think I have a tough time multi-tasking, so when I have a lot going on, I get stressed out. Does anyone else have trouble doing a lot at once?

No I am the complete opposite. I feel better when I am busy. If I have nothing to do then my mind has way too much time to imagine all the worst things that could happen to me. lol. I need to keep myself more busy. :)
Graciecat 03-23-2006, 03:18 PM Well as usual I'm different from everyone else :D
When I was having anxiety/panic problems I was always 1000 times worse first thing in the morning.
I always assumed and my Doctor agreed that it was mostly due to the fact that I have OCD....I had...in fact still have... certain things that I NEED to do every single day at the same time of day and in the same order...this CAN NOT vary in the slighest for me...OCD is such fun
But come about 4 in the afternoon after all my rituals were taken care of I was fine....never had a problem after 4 PM.
Dinner was almost ready, Husband and Son were home, house was clean...even though it wasn't dirty in the first place because I had just cleaned from top to bottom the day before :o
I suppose maybe I didn't answer your question very well, since I still have the OCD but don't have anxiety or panic problems any more.
I still have to do all my rituals every day, but I don't panic any more about getting them done...hope that made some sense...I wrote it and I'm not sure I understand it ;)
Punkdizzle 03-23-2006, 03:37 PM morning is when my anxiety is at its worst.. and slowly gets better as the day goes on.. by 8-9pm i am usually to tired to care about being anxious and can relax without a xanax.. it has always been like this for me for some reason.. unless i have a trigger to get me worked up at night.. like going on a trip the next day or somehting fun planned for the next day.. but that is more of a "to excited to sleep" anxiety not the crappy pointless anxiety..
americandancer 03-23-2006, 03:53 PM My anxiety is worse in the morning, unless I have a particularly stressful evening or a lot going on. Now that I think about it, most of my anxiety is while I'm at work. Running my kids around in the afternoon is like a 2nd job in itself, but I may get stressed out from it, but I don't have the really bad anxiety then, if that makes any sense.
CAK70 03-23-2006, 05:14 PM During the day at work, I am fine...well I should say almost fine because I know it is there but I am very busy so I am able to keep myself occupied and tend not to dwell on it too much. I do not allow myself to take my Xanax during the day...I do keep one in my bag in case of emergencies though. It is when things start to slow down...normally around 3:00 or so when I am dying for the work day to end that I really start to feel it. I would say the worst time for me is after I get home from work...sometimes I can stay busy but when I am just reading, doing homework or just watching TV is when it starts to drive me crazy...I take my Xanax as needed in the evenings. Sometimes I am completely fine...I went Saturday through Monday without a Xanax but come Tuesday it was full blown. So, I guess I am the same...starts late afternoon and runs through the evening until I fall asleep. Sometimes my Xanax doesn't completely make it go away, it will minimize it just enough where I can get to sleep.
Just 11 more days until I see my new primary care doctor and hopefully get some full time meds!
clill_IU 03-27-2006, 02:17 PM I;m a disaster in the morning. shakes and nausea....funny how everyone responds to the anxiety differently.
brionylou 03-27-2006, 02:43 PM yeah i do notice that i almost never feel bad in the morning (unless id had a manic attack during the night). and it is alway between 3pm and 7pm that i feel more fearful and anxious. which calms down by about 10pm!
manchak99 03-27-2006, 03:00 PM how quickly does the xanax work for you.....seems like it can take a while for me.....i'm on .25mg extended relief xanax.
zosolizard 03-27-2006, 04:13 PM for me - it seems to take a good 30 - 45 minutes for my Xanax to kick in. I am not taking the XR though.
manchak99 03-27-2006, 05:21 PM i wish in a way i wasn't given the extended relief.....i'm taking the generic form but would rather have the regular xanax. it's about that same time frame for me and only seems to work for at most 4 hours. for my attacks, i get dizzy and off balance.....that's my symptom range.
johnnygun 03-27-2006, 11:19 PM :bouncing: I Have Pantic Attacks And Depression .all Messed Up.lol. :bouncing: :bouncing:
CAK70 03-27-2006, 11:30 PM I start to feel a little relief from my Xanax (Alprazolam .25mg) in about a half hour to 45 minutes but full relief takes longer...about an hour to an hour and a half...I have started taking it earlier in the evenings so the pounding heart is gone before I go to sleep...I can take it at 6:00 in the evening as I did on Saturday before one of my finals and still felt the full effect at midnight.
Punkdizzle 03-27-2006, 11:52 PM for those of you that seem to be waiting a while for the xanax to kick in..
i was just wondering if you have tried taking them on a empty stomach? when i take my dose first thing in the morning with no food it seems to work pretty fast with in 15-20min.. but if i take one after i eat (usually the after dinner dose) it seems to take a good hour or more before i feel it starting to work.. i know everyone is different in how they react to meds but just tossing that thought out there..
CAK70 03-28-2006, 06:01 AM I only take my Xanax when needed in the evenings...I do not take it on a regular basis but I guess I could try what others have suggested and let it dissolve under my tongue if I really felt horrible.
marcus1 03-28-2006, 12:25 PM I am like you CAK 70. During the day my anxiety is always there in the background but not too bothersome.
It is when I get home and my anxiety feels worse. I start to feel very tired and quite withdrawn. The confidence that I have had throughout the day simply drains out of me.
This is obviously some sort of mood disorder but I don't know what.
Ever since I suffered my first panic attack twenty years ago I have been like this.
CAK70 03-28-2006, 12:36 PM Yes, Marcus that is how I feel too...I am completely drained of energy by the time I get home...I do not feel like doing anything except laying on the couch watching TV or with a good book...I know there are things that I should be doing and things that need to be done but I just can't get myself to do them unless I absolutely have to. I am so tired of feeling like this!
