My DD is seven and a half months old and has started to throw temper tantrums when she doesn't get her own way. For example if I stop her doing something she is enjoying but I don't want her to do (like chewing the remote control!) she starts crying and screaming and waving her arms around.

Has anyone got any advice on the best ways to deal with these tantrums? Distracting her with something else seems to work quite well but have you got any other suggestions?

I thought they weren't supposed to throw tantrums until they were about 2! :confused:

Distraction is the best thing I found at that age. Just hand 'em something else, or take them into a new room or situation. Also, pick your battles. DD is in LOVE with the remote and also freaks if I take it away. So now I don't take it away. I don't mind some drool on the remote. Now if it's something more dangerous of course I remove it

Both of my kids seemed to start the tantrums right around one (lucky me :) )

My DS has started having temper tantrums too...he is almost 8 months. And what do you know, usually over the remote! I have an old remote without batteries that is his. So when I have mine, he gets his, and we're all happy!
He also loves to walk around now hanging onto my fingers. He wants to do it all the time, so when I try to sit him down for a bit, he goes balistic. I find if I just stay calm, put some toys in front of him, and go about my business, he'll stop pretty quick. I think by not giving in, he has learned he's not going to get his way. So he'll just start playing with his toys after about a minute or so.

LOL! Sounds like someone needs to make a toy remote control for babies. My DD is obsessed with the remote! She'll practically fling herself out of my arms if she spots it on the sofa! It's a good idea to give her an old one of her own but couldn't the buttons come off and choke her?
