View Full Version : Question about bleeding after C-section

My planned C-section will be 5 weeks ago this Friday (Mar 24).

This may be a stupid/naive first time mother question, but I was wondering if it is normal to still be bleeding bright red blood after 5 weeks. It's not a constant flow, maybe one or two 'squirts' (sorry, don't know how else to describe it) a day.

I also get some pain on my lower right side, which I know is supposed to be from the suture knot. But it sometimes feels more like it's on my hip bone than where the incision is. I also get radiating pain where it feels like the inside incision is, and when this area hurts a lot, that seems to be when I bleed more.... it's nothing I can't live with, but all the same disturbing to me having never had any surgery before. I'm just afraid I guess something may happen from the surgery to prevent me from having any more children.

I just want to get some other c-section patients input before I call my Dr.'s office...

Thanks for humoring me...
Rochelle

I had my section 7 weeks ago and it was my first also. The only thing that I had was my insides felt tender for a while. I Bled for about 3 weeks and tehn it started slacking off. My dr did tell me that I could start af, could that possibly be it? I would suggest calling the doctors office, it will not hurt anything.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to call my Dr.'s office tomorrow. I just was looking to see if anyone else has had the same thing happen.

I'm not sure if it's AF...if it is it isn't a normal cycle since it's been happening ever since the surgery. After about 2 weeks it stopped for a week and then started up again, but that was when I started getting the sharp pains.

Again, thanks for the reply,
Rochelle

I bled spots of red until about 6 weeks or so. It wasn't much but it was still there and I had to wear a pad.

I bled for about 6 weeks too - more so (squirts) or sometimes it felt like water just coming out of me (but that is when I was doing TOO much)... you need to listen to your body - and you will bleed more when you are doing too much. and yes the side pain is kinda normal but the radiating pain I haven't had that ...

I had my c-section 4 weeks ago. I bled consistantly for about 2 weeks, and now I get spotting a couple times per day (not bright red, though, usually a brownish color). The spot where I have my incision is still a bit numb, and is a little tender at times, but it's not sore and does not hurt at all. The bleeding you're experiencing could be your period. But I don't think you should still hurt that much after 7 weeks. It could be a sign of an infection. I would definitely call your doctor just in case.

I am no going on 2 wks and 4 days and Ive pretty much stop bleeding. I just have some watery blood when going to the restroom. Nothing bad or enough to wear a pad for. I did however did have problems with my incision. When I went to the dr to have my staples removed 5 days later it wasnt healing right in the middle. It was over lapping so he had to pull it back open and put tape strips over it. Its done healed up now and looks good.........besides being twice as long as my other 2 c-sections was.

Hope this helps. I had my 4th c-section 8 months ago. With everyone of them I had pain, soreness, burning, & a pinch on my side. With my 1st 3 c-sections the bleeding lasted 4 to 5 weeks. With my 4th the bleeding lasted between 7 to 8 weeks. Thought I would never stop but it finally did. The more c-sections you have the worse it is. The worst thing for me with my 4th was my uterus would not contract back on it's on so after the c-section they put me on patosum (really don't know how to spell that, but it's the stuff they use to put you in labor) so needless to say I felt like I was in labor after the section. It was aweful. I stayed drugged up so much I couldn't even hold my baby right away. Everyone else got to hold her first. I still am upset about it to this day.
