View Full Version : Frequent Viruses?

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this is, but thought I would give it a try.

About a year ago, the right corner of my mouth started twitching and tingling. I would have trouble closing my mouth around a straw. Sometimes the tingling would spread to my chin and along the bottom of the right side of my face. I asked my neurologist about this thinking it had something to do with my neuromuscular disease. He said no and that these were known to be symptoms that a virus is starting. Sure enough, I got a cold sore soon after. I would get these symptoms every few months and within 3-7 days I get a cold sore or a cold.

These symptoms and accompanying virus are happening more often. I've already had two cold sores and a cold this month. I'm still getting over the cold and the symptoms are starting again.

Why would this keep happening and be getting more frequent?

I really don't have answers but can relate to your problem. Last year I was treated for an autoimmune disease. Was put on huge doses of prednisone which in essence shut down my natural immune system. I've been off steroids and in remission since last June but seem to catch whatever cold or flu or other virus is in the air. In fact I'm now on round 2 of antibiotics for the latest episode. My doctor has admitted to me it's possible that the natural immune system didn't fully recover leaving me more susceptible to illness.
