hugs28 03-25-2006, 11:36 AM I need to know how much formula should a 8 month old be consuming in a 24 hour period. thanks Kiera1595 03-27-2006, 09:25 AM I think it's between 32-40oz hugs28 03-27-2006, 01:46 PM for a 8 month old???? my ds does not eat at night anymore and eats 3 solid meals a day, that is near impossible lol as he would be either eating or drinking all day long lol. thanks ChappyBoy 03-27-2006, 02:06 PM Just asked our ped this for our 8 month old. He is between 24 and 32 ounces that he gets with 4 bottles. he now eats three solid meals that are about 4-6 ounces per meal in addition and that is where the Dr wants him. hugs28 03-27-2006, 08:57 PM my ds is probably at the low end of that, so I guess we are ok, but there were a few days, that he only had a 8 oz bottle at night and nothing else, he didn't want it. thanks again SueCampbellBill 03-28-2006, 09:08 AM Hugs...I thought our kids were about the same age.....my DD is now 9 months old. But for the past couple of weeks she has been fighting a cold which turned in to an ear infection. As a result, she nearly avoided the bottle at all costs which worried me some and I called the DR and he said as along as she would eat all the solids you give her - keep it up. Even now, now that the cold seems to be gone and her ear cleared up - she might get or take about 4-5 ounces in the morning. Then food about 10:30 AM and then maybe about 4 more ounces and then some more food and then nap time and then a bottle again (which as of late at Daycare she is taking like 7 ounces but won't for us at home - figure that out!) and then solids for dinner and then a rice bottle at night - which she takes about 6-7 ounces of. So - it's as if she doesn't want to take the bottle anymore. It might be because she was used to the solids during her cold and then it might be that since she has her top two teeth that it's funny to do that now and doesn't want the bottle anymore. We have her 9 month appointment today - so I am going to ask more about that, but when he called me during her cold because she wasn't drinking much then - he wasn't concerned.....doing the sippy cup isn't working either - so you might imagine I was a little worried....!!! hugs28 03-28-2006, 05:33 PM my son was born july 26th, thanks for the info, i usually get him to have a 6 oz in the afternoon, then 8 oz before bed, sometimes he takes 2-3 oz in the morning, but will have watered down juice throughout the day also. let me know what doc says. SueCampbellBill 03-29-2006, 08:56 AM Well we got back from the DR and she weighed 21 pounds 10 ounces and she was 29.5 inches long. She is a "rock star" he said - (He cracks me up!) Anyway.....I asked about the formula reduction and he wasn't concerned. He said to keep trying the sippy cup and eventually she will get it. (Try the soft spout on them!).....but if she is eating good food (which she does!) then it's OK. He did even mention that she could have cows milk now if we wanted to - but to make sure she gets those additional vitamins in it to compensate for the vitamins that would have been in her formula. So - for now, I think I am going to stick with the formula and leave it at that until it's gone and work with the milk in about a month or two....I do have some of those vitamins anyway.....the only concern he had was the lack of iron with cows milk, so it can't be all bad right? So I guess she is just fine. They do say that they will start drinking less milk at this point.....it could be her top teeth bothering her and that might be it. So I guess I can't worry to much about it anymore......sounds normal I guess. hugs28 03-29-2006, 07:49 PM thanks for the input, try the nuby brand sippy cups, these are the only ones he can drink from, they have the soft tip, that is like the bottle nipple, not the harder ones, i have only found them at babies r us and toys r us, any other brand right now, he just bites and chews on it, he does this one on his own. good luck |
