Hello fellow throat clickers. Its great to find other people who are experiencing exactly the same thing as you, when the medics haven't a clue!
My experience is very similar to the very first thread, in that I was ill about 5 months ago, with severe coughing and chest infection. My throat started to click, which I thought was down to something swelling. However, the click didn't go away. It happens nearly everytime I swallow. I can feel it through my skin at the top of my neck under my chin. I'd kind of got used to it, but then felt compelled to go to the Dr's a few days ago. As all the threads suggest, they weren't able to help, so I too have been passed onto an ENT specialist.
In the meantime, I'm going to try some excercises with my neck, throat and tongue, just to see if that helps.
Will keep you posted...

Hey all,
can't begin to tell you what a relief reading all of your comments has been. I developed the throat click about a month ago and it happens most when i turn my head down or to the right. I had thrown up a few days prior to that and also noticed that i can see a flap of cartilage in the back of my throat behing my tongue when i look there wiht a flashlight. ANyhone else notice this flap? As you all know it doesn't appear when i am occupied, drinking, eating or sleeping. However, like the rest of you I am parranoid and I think making it worse from worrying about it. This week I decided to take some action to at least make myself stop worrying... here is what i have done so far.
first i went to the dentist b/c i was due. told them and they checked me for oral cancer which came back negative. said he couldn't feel any lumps or anything and just to mention it to my dr. next time i see him.
not satisfied with that i made a chiropractor appt. hoping he would somehow pop things back into place. he did adjust my neck but said it's hard to do your throat b/c the hyoid is free floating and he cannot adjust that.
still not better and today i went to my primary dr. who said he doesn't think its a big deal probably GERD, a cyst on my vocal cords or something with my thyroid. He did say that cartilage flap is my epiglottis and that is probablyu what is clicking or rubbing. he ordered me a blood test and next wednesday i have an appt with an ENT to do a scope. I am now really nervous about this and very scared to have the proceture done in fear that he will find something bad. I am almost 30 and have for the most part let a very active healthy life. In the last 3 years I have smoked and drank more then normal but feel like overall I am in good shape and health.
Hoping someone here can help ease my anxiety. thanks so much

At thirty, your immune system is probably still protecting you, however, as you age, smoking and drinking will start to cause your immune system to deteriorate and the protection will not last forever. Assuming that you want to live comfortably for as long as you can, get your clean bill of health and stop the smoking and drinking and you will be ahead of the game.
