A fella at our church has Parkinsons Disease and at times freezes in his tracks. The other day he was sporting a new "walker", a fancy one. I do not know the brand or where to buy, but, it has features that are great.

The walker has a button on the handle to punch when a person freezes and then a bright red "laser" will shine across the foot. For some reason this causes the brain to think the foot needs to be lifted and the freeze breaks and they can move again (they do not know why it works this way). It also has brakes, release the handle grips and the walker is steady stays in place making the person more secure.

I saw the fella leaving church a little later and was amazed how fast he was walking in comparison to before getting the new walker and was standing erect, not bent over.

His doctor was excited about the new walker and wanted to know where to buy, etc.

If anyone is interested, I would be glad to find out the brand and where to buy. Wish my dad had one of those while he was alive and living with PD.

the light sounds like a great feature. otherwise one bought from krogers for about $100 is agile with a seat and basket. my mom has a good stick which she uses to pick up items, and a device for slipping on socks.
i have PD myself with problem buttoning clothes and hard to buckle seat belts as a passenger. when i am driving i forget i have PD.
