I have posted on my brain symtoms below, and unfortunatly, with my living arrangements, conditions have cause me to have a relaphs, [after getting nominaly better!]. I cant deal with this anymore, and need to get to a safe place to recover, where I can have peace and quiet.
I have no income, so I will need to apply for SSI, as I cannot work. As this will be based on the outcome of my MRI- assuming it goes through, how hard is it to get SSI in the US, with a doctors recomendation? How do you do it? I've seen lawyers for it in the phone book. Not looking forward to the hard way, as reading about doctors on this board makes me [still] untrustworthy of them in general.

Thanks

Well, I would first ask are you a citizen? I noticed you specifically ask "in the US" and I *think* you have to be a citizen.

If you have no previous work history and are single the standard amount for SSI is $500. It's VERY hard to live on that- I know from experiance.

Even with your doc's recommendation the SS office will send you to one of their docs. Their opinion is what really counts.

You would have to be able to prove that under no circumstance are you able to work. You do need to be aware that there is SSI and SS Disability- not the same thing. If you have a previous work history then the amount you draw will be based on work history. Before you file ANY paper work you can call the SS office and ask how much you would be eligable for on SSD. That would help you decide if it's worth the trouble or not. Once you file- keep filing. When you are approve you will recieve a "back pay" check. (Amount you would have received had you been approved the first time you filed+ every check there after). If you decide to use an attorney they will collect around 3% of your check as payment.

You must get started by filing up your paper work first. From there the SS office will send you to their own dr's at no cost to you. From my own experince I don't believe the SS dr's are biased. If you truley feel like you should be eligible for disability they will most likely agree with you.

there is tons of info on this subject on the disability boards here on this site.alot of really helpful and knowledgable peoplethere who can answer all of your questions.the above posters are all right on with the advice they gave you.when dealing with trying to prove your need for disability and or ssi,it all comes down to basically what you can and cannot actually do anymore due to your disabilities.

if you go to www.socialsecurity.gov you will find tons and tons of info on how the whole process works.you can even start your initial application from there too.I did.I wish you lots of luck.you should already be getting something from socail security every single year if you are actually woking or have had worked that tells you all of your socail security info, including what you would actually be entitled to if you were to become suddenly disabled at the point of when they sent this out to you.I used to get one every year stating about seven years ago or so??I cannot actually remeber when they started doing this, but my husband still gets one every year.you can actually request this particular document from the site I just gave you too.just go there and start reading thru the info.good luck to you.Marcia
