Hello To All, My Question Is Plain. I Have Been Taking 40mg Of Oxy's For A Year Now. I Take One First Thing In The Morning To Help With The Pain From Degeneritive Disc, Knees, Etc., You Get The Picture. Just One A Day And That Is It, Before Those I Was Taking Loritabs For Three Years. I Have Recently Bumped Up To 80mg, But Just The One In The Morning. I Have Been Dealing With This Pain For 20 Years Now And It Got To The Point Where It Would Make Me Depressed And Want To Shoot That Disc Right Out Of There. Well, My Family Is Giving Me Grief And Always On My *** About Taking The Oc's. To Them I Am A Drug Addict Because I Take Pain Meds Everyday. So What I Need Your Advice On Is Withdrawing. I Am Thinking Of Doing 40mg Of Oc Once A Day For 30 Days. For The Next Month Take 20mg Once A Day, Than Take 10mg For 15 Days And 5mg For The Remainder And Hopefully That Should Do It. All Advice And Input Is Very Much Appreciated. Thank You All :)

I take Oxy for chronic pain to and I would not call myself a drug addict. As long as you are taking it as directed and not snorting it or chewing it I would not say your not addicted to it, but you are " dependent" on it for your pain issues. I don't agree with your parents and family members. Living with contstant back pain is no fun and they are not being reasonable here. Perhaps you should take them with you to your Dr so the Dr can expain to them that you are not a drug addict. that is just plain not the case. ( unless you are taking more than prescribed and not taking it correctly)Oxycontin is a good medication is used properly and I do feel that it is less addictive than Vicadin and percocet as the shorter acting meds give you the buzz people with chronic pain should not have to suffer like I did for so long. Please don't stop the medication just because your family members are on your a-- about it, that is cruel of them. How old are you that you have to please your family members and do this for them? I would be very careful stopping the medication without talking to your Dr.

good luck, be careful you will have W/D'S if you lower your dose to fast.

I am also a chronic pain person. If you need the OC's to cope w/ the pain you may need to be on narcotics your whole life. Your family propobably knows the awful stigma that OC's have. They only know that people abuse them by crushing or snorting them. They know that people are dying from these pills. They know that "druggies" are buying and using these pills. Educate them on the legitimate chronic pain useage. If they help you with your pain and you use them "as directed" DO NOT let other people take that away from you.

Thanks for all your replies and support. I am a 50 year old male and have been living in pain for at least 25 years. I take OC's for the pain, Effexor XR for my depression, Xanax for my anxiety, Provigil to wake me up, pills for my blood pressure, oh and I can't forget the Cialis for you know. It is like you take one to balance out the other and it never stops. I never had high blood pressure and now I just finished having a complete physical and the doctor told me my liver levels are high. The range is between 20-40 and mine was 70. So no beer after a hard days work. Has this happened to anybody else? Thanks for taking the time to read this pity story. Have a great weekend everybody!!
