View Full Version : Regular eye exams after Lasik

I love my Lasik eyes but-
Some nearsighted eyes repaired by Lasik are slightly more prone to tearing or even detachment of the retina. Yearly Eye exams may provide early detection of tearing or "holes" that can be repaired with an Argon Laser. Left undetected the retina may become detached and that requires an involved reattachment operation.
Occasional jagged floaters or flashing lights in the eye are a probable warning sign of this condition.
I know this now - because last Friday the "holes" in my right retina were repaired. Tomorrow I go to the hospital for the eye surgery to reattach my retina on my left eye. It's not a 100 percent sure thing repair either so not catching this problem earlier may cost me in vision acuity and not to mention a serious loss of beer money.

Do you think that this problem was caused by the lasik surgery?

Did you have any problems with floaters and stuff before lasik?

MK
Actually I don't think so. Lasik was 4-5 years ago. I did wake up with a large black floater the morning after dilation, three hours before a Lasik redo was done on my left eye. I didn't mention it to the personnel because they were doing all the inspections again before the surgery and I thought it was a normal thing. Over time the spot dissipated into a slightly noticeable thin cloudy floater.

Before Lasik - I cannot remember a problem. I did have a severe blow above my right eye two years ago and I saw the stars then. Occasionally I would see a jagged edge semicircle line and a flashing light in my left eye. I checked my bp and found it over 200/114. I went on bp medicine last December and I recall only a few incidents until a week ago when I got this blur in half my left eye vision. After a week it didn't clear up any so I went to the eye doctor.

Now I am asking questions about that black spot and I will go to the Lasik surgeons for some answers. I want to know more and there are topics in this Lasik section that pertain to the increased possibility of tearing of the retina because of its elongated structure.
It would seem that a person with extreme near sightedness, as was I, would be susceptible to tearing with or without Lasik.
I suppose a poll of people that have had a detached retina would be helpful.
Like Farsighted?_____ Nearsighted?_____ Had Lasik?_____
yours je
