View Full Version : What foods should I be eating?

Hi, I just had a quick question and I'm hoping for some answers. :)

My diet lately has not been what I would like it to be. (high carb diet) It just feels like my body needs some better foods to get my G.I. tract in better shape. Some of my "symptoms" include the following.

-when i wake up in the morning I often have a somewhat upset stomach and often have coffee in place of a meal. I may eat earlier some days..but other days, I don't end up eating anything until the afternoon.

- I have a lot of excess gas coming from both ends of the G.I. system.

- I often feel quite bloated and when I eat, I often can't eat the portions that I have in past. (for instance I ate a sandwich for lunch today and by the time I finished it I felt overly full.)

- Somewhat irregular with B.M.'s

- upset stomach

Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions on what I could change in my diet to decrease the gassiness and bloat, etc.

Thanks for any help I receive, Garn

Honestly, it could be a few things...

You may want to purchase enzymes, which will help break up the proteins and fats. Your body is probably not breaking it down correctly, which is causing the bloating.

Also, you may want to see a doctor, you could possibly have a gluten allergy. Which means, you can't consume anything you had listed.

Try eliminating pasta, breads, rice, potaotes, beans and anything with sugar. Add lean proteins at most meals, and veggies and smaller amounts of fruit. Eat mostly whole foods as opposed to processed foods.

Wheat, in particular, can be rough on a sensitive GI track. But I agree with BeachLvr about cutting out (or at least down on) those very starchy foods. If you can get hold of a book by Elaine Gottschall, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, you might find much of the information enlightening. At this point, it might not be necessary to follow the very restrictive regime she recommends, but making food choices while keeping in mind her ideas could help you avoid worse troubles down the road.

Good luck!

i would say definitely don't drink coffee every day, and try a fasting drink every once and a while to give your stomach a rest from digesting. i know this forum doesn't want anyone recommending fasting, but i've found fasting drinks extremely helpful when i eat too much and i'm still hungry, and when i wan't to clean out my bowels. research fasting first though before you get into it. many people will advise it's not safe, because it's commonly misunderstood.

I agree that you should check with your doc to rule out allergies or anything serious with your upper/lower GI.

I started the Omega Plan last year for high cholesterol, but it also cleared up the bloating/gas/irregular BMs/stomach pain almost immediately. There's a ton of info on the Net about it, or you can purchase the book.
