I tried posting this question on another forum but no one answered me. Must not be common. Before all my symptoms started a few months ago I had other symptoms leading up to it. For over a year I've had this pressure in my lower to mid back. Feels like a wave going up my spine. Almost like my spine is moving. I went to the family doc and she said it was muscle spasms. Now that I concentrate on the feeling it does kinda feel like muscle spasms. It also feels like a lot of pressure. Drives me nuts to sit back in a recliner. I can really feel it then. I've had MRI done of brain and cervical spine(neck). But not of the rest of my spine where I'm feeling this. It is a really weird sensation. Kinda numb back there but with these intense spasms. I have to ask if anyone has experienced anything like this??? All the doctors including the neuro are ignoring it. It has gotten much worse when all of these other symptoms started about three months ago. I feel like it is connected somehow. HELP!!!!

PS. It is always in the same spot...but now I'm having it in two different areas. Also, MRI negative.

Cals,

This is why I was sent to the Cleveland Clinic, even though I have had 2 previous lumbar surgeries, which I thought was associated to the back spasms and leg spasticity. After 4 neurosurgeons saying it wasn't the previous surgeries, the neuro was dumb founded.I take baclofen, zanaflex during the day and valium at night. Now they want me start quinine at night.I get this all day long.A ripple effect.
Push for a lumbar MRI.Ironically my lumbar is the only area that feels normal,go figure.

WOW! I'm not glad that you're in pain. But I'm glad you know what I'm talking about! So let me get this straight....you thought your surgeries were causing spasms in your back. But your spasms aren't from surgery? Did I get that right? So does this mean that MS can cause this feeling in the back?? Cuz that was the first thing that came about with me. Along with swallowing problems. You described it to a t when you said a ripple effect!!! I kept having my husband look at my back. The way it felt I really thought he'd be able to SEE it. lol

Cals,
The spasms are not from the 2 previous lumbar surgeries.
Low back pain and spasms are associated with MS.Every morning I dread stretching these old legs, they are tight and it takes a while to get the right ankle to move.I had a Dr tell me the absent reflexs and complete numbness in the right ankle and foot was a residual side affect from the surgeries,I could of excepted that 7 years ago,but this was in the last year.I contribute it to the MS like symptoms.

Hi

Not sure if this will help but I have MS and I know heat will mkae matters worse with an MS flair. At least it does when I have ON. If im in the shower adn the water is hot my symptoms get worse. Then once Im out they get a little better. it has somthing to do with the core temp of your body. There is another board that I goto that offers alot of advice. Its called MSworldboards.org. You might find helpfual information there as well.

Be well
Heather
