I went to the ENT today and he said that i am maxed out on the medication that i can take and recommends that i strongly consider getting Nissen Fundoplication done. My biggest symptom from my LPR is my chronic cough... i do not have heartburn of any sort because i do not have GERD, i was diagnosed with LPR. Has anyone here been diagnosed with LPR, gone through with the Nissen, and had a succesful turnaround. I am 23 years old and the ENT told me that my LPR is going to get worse as i get older and that the medications will only help me for so long. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Spider,
Did you have the Nissen for LPR? I am so sorry you have all this suffering. Have you gotten a second opinion? I have heard of people getting their fundo redone successfully by another surgeon.

I also had an unsuccessful Nissen, but I have/had heartburn. I can't say I'm any worse than before, but just about the same. I take Prilosec OTC everyday now. I hope that you guys have a successful outcome.

my gastro doctor say's in order to get rid of the pain in my stomache i will have to have the surgery undone i really don't have a problem with this except that the pain in my stomache could be nerve damage from the surgery so no saying if i do go through the pain of another surgery if im gonna be any better or if i will just end up worse

Hi unamac,
Had endoscopy which showed a sliding hiatus hernia. Had 24 hr PH monitoring which showed numerous incidents of reflux both day and night and irrespective of food or even eating at all. Went in for the surgery mid December but procedure was abandoned after incisions as they found a growth in my stomach. Thankfully this turned out OK but I still need it done. My symptoms have varied in severity over the past couple of years but they are mostly now acid in throat, bitter taste, nasal congestion, excess throat clearing, post nasal drip and sinus pains. In the past I had quite bad globus and burning mouth but this is less so. Most fundos are successful but its just that you dont hear from the people on the boards....because they are getting on with life. Most issues centre around the wrap either being too tight or too loose. The likely success of any procedure will be dependent upon the experience of the surgeon in performing it and your own reaction to it. For myself I need a rest from reflux so if it stops that I will put up with and get used to any other side effect. My aim is to be positive about it being a success. The findings state I need it done, the PPI's did not work so I have very little options left.
Good luck
