I had a pre-op appointment to discuss essure today. I am pretty sure that I am going to go ahead with it, but I would love to hear from anyone else that has had this done. From what the doc said today, there is basically nothing bad about it. Opinions... experiences?

I have read a little about it. The caution flag I saw was the complete lack of long term studies. If I remember right the info says they aren't sure what happens after like 3 years?

Essure is a relatively new procedure, similar to having a tubal. The doc goes in vaginally, through your cervix with a telescope. Then a small coil shaped device is places into each fallopean tube. Over the course of 3 months, scar tissue grows over the coil, effectively blocking the tube. There is no need for anestesia, and there are no incisions.

I just had it done in January. I had two other procedures done at the same time and have had no problems. Hopefully, it will work!!! My body can't handle any more pregnancies! I feel safer because I can't use any form of hormonal birth control (which was my preferred method for years). I think it's the perfect form of permanent birth control because you don't have to worry about major surgery and your body still produces the hormones you need to stay healthy as you age.

Good luck with the procedure if you decide to have it done! Keep us posted on your progress.

I was scheduled to have the Essure procedure done in March. My uterus was tilted so they couldn't do it so I had a tubal ligation done. It wasn't that bad - first day I was really tired from being put to sleep and was a little sore the next day - but nothing major. I'm glad I did the tubal instead because with Essure I would still be on the pill for another 3 months at least. I heard stories of people being on the pill for longer (upto a year) because they weren't completely blocked up from the procedure.
