It's weird. I am usually fine during the day, but come the middle of the night I awake with a sore throat feeling like it's acid from my stomach and awake with it too. Does GERD happen more at night than during the day? And if so, why? Any replies appreciated.

Yes, GERD happens more at night. When you lay flat the acid can move up your esophagus more easily. Standing helps because of gravity. Elevate the head of your bed 6-8 inches with blocks, it will help a bunch. Also, try to sleep on your left side to keep your stomach below your esophagus (again the gravity). Also don't eat late at night.

Can it be burning only you can't feel it because the medication is working?

Hi,
I too have the burning sensation in my throat. My voice is HORRIBLE, scratchy and running up and down the octive levels!
I have tried Protonix, generic protonix, and am now on Nexium, which my insurance won't cover and it costs the amount of my grocery budget for the month just to fill it! However, it is not taking away the burning in my throat, which is very bad this morning.
I don't know what to do anymore, I am sick of these drugs that don't work! I have a bottle of Mylanta in every room in the house and my car for when I just can't take it anymore.
I will try raising the bed, thanx to who posted that. I'll try anything make this go away.

me1,
Are you eating bland foods? That definitely seems to help me.
