This is my 1st posting although I have been reading and find it so helpful. I was diagnoised in Dec after a year of craziness and and an idiot for a neurologist. I now have a great neuro who is a meber of the MS society and I trust him completly.

I am on Avonex since the end of Jan. Last month I had pain and numbeness in my legs and hadwhat felt like my hundredth MRI done. No new lesions in the brian or in my spine and the feeling disappeared as on its own within about 12 days.

Now for the last 12 days I have this pain on the side of my forearms and by my elbows. Both arms.. though not always at the same time. Some days its the right some days left some times both. No numbness, just pain.. Also hurts when I bend my arms. Now the last 3 days I have pain in my neck. Fells to me like a pulled muscle. Just wondering if this is just normal "pains" of Ms. I don't want to be one of those people that calls the doctor for every little thing. When I saw him last after the leg incident he told me that numbness and tingling were normal but muscle weakness should be brought to his attention. I am not sure if this qualifies. I also skipped my injection the last two weeks in a row and am wondering if that would effect me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Stephanie

Stephanie..

Something you might talk to your neuro about is fibromyalgia. It is common for MSers to have fibro as well. I was dx'd with that combo and have had that arm pain at times..it can be intense, but there are things you can do to help minimize the problem.

Keep us updated on you and feel free to check in with any question any time!

How exactly do they diagnosis fibromyalgia? I have always heard that's what they finally decide to say women have when there is pain present that they have no other firm explination for. I have a friend who has it quite severley. She is also on antidepressants.

I actually saw one neurologist at the beginning of all this who told me all I was suffereing from was "stress" and wanted me to start antidepressants!
I thought I was the only one who ran into this can of thing till I got on this board and saw that this happens over and over again.

Now that I hear that fibromyalgia and Ms do go together I wont be so skeptical if the doctor tells me I have it. This board is a G-d send.. Thank you.

Stephanie,
Welcome,I think many of us has had at least one idiot Neurologist thru the dx period.I yet to have a confirmed dx.All syptoms and signs just not the criteria scale.
I have terrible muscle pain and spasms, besides long term numbness and tingling,14 months ago it led to spasticity.I also get neck muscle pain.I take zanaflex and baclofen, both muscle relaxers,it helps a great deal.I also take vicidon for the pain.At night when the spasms are out of control I take valium. They contribute this to the 99%probable MS.If these symptoms would leave I'd feel 80% better. You might want to talk to your DR.these symptoms can lead to perminant disabilities.I wish my neuro would of addressed them earlier.

Toni
