I lived in California and have been approved for disability and they said this also makes me eligible for MediCal. Do you know if you're atomatically enrolled in MediCal or is it optional? Can you have both MediCal and your private insurance at the same time? Thanks ~

I get disabillity and I get medical as well. However if I remember right I had to apply for it. I am not sure about the private insurance. I have kiaser insurance but it is through my medical. There is a lot of plus and negitives to it but evens it self out.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
Good luck to ya.

Thanks for your reply. How do you like MediCal? Right now I have Blue Cross and I'm trying to make a list of the pros/cons of switching to MediCal. I actually don't have a lot of info on it but have done some research. It's hard to tell which would be better. I'm sure it's an individual thing but it's always nice to hear personal experience too. Thanks,
Liz

Lizzy,
I would call Medical and ask about having private insurance. Madical is nice to have but the draw back is finding a doctor to take it.
When a doctor takes medical they don't get paid as much as with other insurances.
good part though is my medical is free because of being disabled. I thank God for that because I would not have it otherwise.
there are blessings with everything :)
I don't see why they would not allow you to have private insurance but call and ask to make sure.

I agree - it is a blessing to be eligible for free insurance! Thanks for your help, I'll get in touch with the MediCal office ~
