View Full Version : Headaches, overeating sweets, ....what's going on? Anyone else?

I'm wondering about the weight gain thing with Zoloft, or really any other antidepressant, or other reasons....ack...

It's been cloudy and RAINY here for about 6 weeks now. I've been cramming down the sweets, craving chocolate or other sweets like crazy and can't really be left alone with ice cream, chocolate, oh, or the salty stuff too like chips. I usually can take a reasonable amount of these things and leave the rest but lately (for a few weeks now) I've been going um hog-wild. I'm really p***ing myself off as I'd gotten rid of about 20 lbs. since last summer. Now I've invited almost half of them back.....in a very short time.

I'm on Zoloft (125 mg.) and doxepin but I have been for about a year now, including during the time I dropped the lbs.

Now I've got incredible headaches that won't go away. I woke up with one two or three time last night (including now).

So, does anyone have any ideas? Have you gone through this? I feel like I often do right around Christmas--another time when I often find myself e.a.t.i.n.g. like crazy. I don't know if it's the weather, the meds, my life......... Does any of this feel familiar to any of you? Any ideas?

Hi, Macadamia Nut

I'm not sure what may be going on. For some reason, I thought about Seasonal Affective Disorder as a possibility, as it has been rainy and yucky outside in your area (in mine, too ;) ), and lack of sunlight could produce it.

The headaches are interesting. Do you take a multivitamin? Perhaps lack of vitamins/nutrients is causing the headaches. Especially if you're craving certain foods...have you been craving anything else?

You said that you recently lost 20 pounds. How did you lose the weight? Did you restrict yourself from certain foods? I've never been on a "diet", so don't quote me on this, but perhaps your body is craving whatever nutrients it lost during the weight loss  .

I hope this helps you a little. I might suggest talking with your doctor about the headaches especially, as this could be a sign of some other complication due even to the medications that you're taking.

macadamia, I have those days also where I just can't seem to get full and all the sweets and salties are calling my name! It's usually when it's around that time of the month that I get that way. I don't know if it's from taking ads or something else. I would get like that whether I was taking anything or not. Maybe the headaches could be caused by the way you have been eating lately? I'm just guessing....I know I get headaches when I haven't been making good food choices. Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon!

I have had same problem and discovered the more of thosecarbs iI ate the more I craved .Are you thirsty as well? Are you urinating frequently ? If so you could be dehydrated and thus the headaches which also could be poor diet. Have you been checked for pre diabetes or diabetes?

With the gut and the head so closely connected especially where seratonins affect both ,many depressed people also have gut ailments .We tend to not eat or exercise properly at times . I have to keep all those things you mentio ned out of the house .I have been prediabetic for years but now have just started taking meds for diabetes . Dont keep wondering , talk to your doctor about this soon.

take care Mizzy

Hi,

I'm not sure about the headaches, but a LOT of people have gained weight on most of the AD's. It actually lists "sweet tooth" as a side effect on my amiltriptyline. That's the first med I ever saw it on. Guess they tell it like it is, huh??

The headaches, I'm at a loss for. I had a headache the first week on lexapro, but I also had a sinus infection at the same time.

We have to get you feeling better. Headaches are a pain in the ***. Hope you feel better soon. TC and keep us posted on how you're doing. We care!! Connire

Thanks for your replies all,

The headache went away after I posted this a.m. (it was 4 here), thank goodness. I think I was dehydrated or something.

It's so weird that being on the same meds and same doses would shift. It really makes me think it's tied to the weather. It's like it's Seattle 3 p.m. allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day long, but it's not. These are not the lovely showers the visitors bureau promises only happen at noon for 10 minutes.

Connie, we can always count on you for a kind word. You're a doll!

Mizplaced/Mizzy, the way I was eating I was thinking the same thing, and that maybe I was heading there too. Oh, and they said on TV this morning that people can stay prediabetic forever.

American Dancer.......oh. yeah. THAT. It is then. I didn't even think about that! Hm, but come to think of it, this has been for a few weeks, not just the usual one-week-prior.

Musical Muse/Colleen, I'm really thinking SAD as well. Nothing else is really any different. Sure it was stressful a week or two ago, but the stress has been gone for at least 10 days now, and I'm still stuffing down the sugary carbs. I was better about it today. If I start the morning off right that seems to set the tone for the day. ...as long as I don't go in the grocery store on the way home.

t, how are you? You seem a bit quiet lately, and have less to say, and ...hm other things. I hope things are at least level and not going downwards with you. Thanks for the well wishes.

thanks again,
