I was wondering if you can still have lymphoma if your biopsy of a large lymph node, that was removed from your neck, came back not positive for lymphoma BUT positive for Epstein Barr Virus and yet your spleen is showing lesions? These lesions have NOT changed shape or size from the very first time they were captured on a CT scan, until this past Monday, which will be over a span of a year and a half. In essence, can lymphoma show up in another area other than the node that was removed and that was suspect, ie., neck lymph node negative for malignancy, BUT spleen positive for malignancy? Never thought to ask but a very interesting question nonetheless. Anyone want to take a stab at giving me some advice?
thanks to all! Cheers!

Hi,
Lymphoma like all other forms of cancers are really tricky and complex. From what previous comments on here have mentioned is that it is possible to have a malignant node, whilst another is not affected. If the Epistein Barr Virus has shown in your node then that's probally all it is and it can cause an enlarged spleen and can take you many months before you begin to feel your normal self. However, if your Doctors are confident that there is some malignancy going on with the spleen then I presume they will continue the CAT scans to check on the size of the lesions and whether the spleen is enlarging or chaning in any way. My best advice would be to keep seeing the specialist you do see regularly, and just take each day as it comes. I'm in a position like this myself. I've been told that its likely that I have lymphoma myself. I hope everything is resolved soon for you, and hope this helps.
Take care,
schao

Vanillarain:
Did you have your CT with our without the contrast? I'm having a lot of symptoms and I had ct of my abdomen without contrast--it came back normal--just wondering if you know if the contrast would show anything different and exactly what you had done. Thanks!

Hi there,
yes i have had a contrast with all my ct scans and up until the results of this last scan (results came back two days ago), the lesions are still there and there has been no change in size or shape whatsoever. The doctor seems to think it is either a childhood trauma ( which i had many accidents such as slamming into a tree on my bike on that side of my abdomen..ouch!!!), scarring from the mono that I had and I had it BAD or it can still be a dormant lymphoma.
My advice to you is make sure your next scans include the contrast...apparently it gives a much better picture of the affected area and is more accurate.
As a side note....I just went to the doctor two days ago becuase I felt a new, somewhat tender lymph gland on the left side of my neck, have been feeling VERY tired where I can barely walk and low fevers of 99F and night sweats. He ordered a whole whack of more blood test and just today he called and said that my white blood count is high, indicating an infection somewhere in my body. He has prescribed antibiotic and I need to see him to followup next week. God I hate this....it just keeps me on edge all the time....thinking is it the mono again or is it undiagnosed lymphoma.
God Bless all of you and keep me posted!!
