Calling the pysh dr today, asking: if she will put me on the dalmane I am use to taking ,low dose for the withdrawl vs valium. They are both benzo's and longer lasting, does it make any difference? I know dalmane worked for me, and never needed to take xanax the next day. So this short term stuff is not working, and I hate to resort back to upping the taper, which I've done well, but having hell trying to get below the .25. She sd if I want off xanax don't put another benzo in the mix, but like the Ashton Man says to taper with valium. I know I can't hurry this up but only have a wk left of .25 so need to cut them more and have something to drag the inbetweens with, like dalmane.

Hi Kind (xanax hls life = 6 - 12 hrs)
Looking in Ashton - Dalmane has a v long half life of between 40 - 250 hours. So in that respect it should be doable. The dosage will be the tricky thing to get right. 0.5 mg xanax = 10 mgs valium = 15 - 30 mg of dalmane.
I think Ashton uses valium for its half life and the fact that it comes in 2 mg and 5 mg sizes - so easy to calculate the right dose. Dose is important to get right so that your blood serum levels dont spike and fall in between doses.
Is there any particular reason that you cant try for valium? Its a cheap pill to produce so your doc cant complain about that..... readily available in Europe......
Worth a shot?
I changed over from ativan (half life of 10 - 20 hours) to valium - took a few weeks to get used to it and then managed to drop regularly every week right down to the end. I had never been able to down dose using just ativan.
Anyway - I think you are thinking along the right lines now................... I know there is a girl in here called Jenna (I think?!) who also has successfully tapered off benzos - perhaps she will drop in too.
Keep posting............. you'll get this sorted.........
