Hi, about a month ago I sought medical advice for something completely different and during the course of the investigation I had a rutine blood test which showed I had "blood sugar levels higher than normal for my age" (which is early 20's).
I wouldn't be concerned apart from the fact that I am currently sat writing this feeling rather shaky in the legs, reasonably sickly and quite light headed since I eat my evening meal.
I am a little overweight (I've been trying to lose weight for ages) and a parent died of a type 2 diabetic related problem, and I think at least 3 grandparents had diabetes of 1 type or another.
I do not drink an awful lot, but I do get dry mouth and lips and everybody says I should drink more, I do however drink more at night and it sounds silly thing to mention but I have been incredibly sweaty at night for about 6 months and also have boils/cyst at various places on my body (underarm, thighs, stomach).

Please help.
A very worry, tired person.

Book:

Get your glucose checked again. Get an A1c test. Then you will know for sure. Your doctor should immediately put you on medication if these tests are positive for diabeties. I found out I was diabetic because of a urine test.

Your family has a medical history of Diabetes and you are experiencing some of the symptoms AND your nurse said what she did. All of these things add up to valid reasons to be concerned. Get your fasting blood sugar tested, A1C and lipid profiles. It is always better to rule it out rather than dwell on the "What if's?"

HELP FOR THE WORRIED PERSON GOOD LUK FROM SHINETYPE 2 Hi It's Quite simple actually ask you doctor to give you an HBA1C test. No fasting no special prep, just go get your blood drawn any time of the day. This test will tell you what you sugar levels have been averaging for the last 3 months if it higher than 6.2% than you are considered a diabetic.

Thank you everybody, I will make an appointment on Monday, I have had another couple of days of on and off shakiness.
I just read what I wrote before and I wanted to clarify that when I say 'I do not drink an awful lot' I mean any type of fluids (water etc.) I don't drink alchohol at all...just to clarify that :)

I have since found out that boils were the first sign that the parent that I lost was diabetic... :( so shall be interesting...
Slept for three hours last night so still tired...
Thanks.
