Quick question.... What is the average cost of a insulin pump ? I go to the VA for my treatment and I am on insulin N and R, but mix it myself. The DR. said he would like to put me on HUMALOG or LANTIS but it is not available. I was thinking about offering to buy a pump if he thought it would work for me. I know I am putting the "cart before the horse", but would appreciate any information ya'll could provide. Thank you. :bouncing:

First off, a major first step to starting pump therapy is multiple daily injections of something like lantus and humalog. It's rather difficult to go straight from N and R to pumping.

Secondly, if you started pumping, you would still have to buy Humalog, since either that or Novolog is what a pump uses.

The cost of a pump is around $6000 and monthly supplies around $300.

I agree with the above post. My pump was $6,700. Insurance paid for all but $700
