very scared....was 5 days late so i tested myself tonight...just got a postive result! first child and so scared, nervous and afraid of the unknown! have anxiety and was taking a xanax a day .25mg dose and am now scared i harmed the fetus! anyone else do this before they knew??????
SINCE I'M ON SUCH A LOW DOSE AND I'M SO EARLY, DO YOU THINK I DID ANYTHING TO HIM/HER? I'M MORE ANXIOUS NOW AND DON'T KNOW HOW I'LL BE ABLE TO FUNCTION WITHOUT SOMETHING TO CALM ME DOWN....STILL IN SHOCK! I KNEW WE WERE GOING TO START ONE OF THESE DAYS ACTUALLY TRYING BUT THE FIRST ATTEMPT WAS SUCCESSFUL AND MUCH EASIER AND FAASTER THAN I ANTICIPATED THINGS GOING.
VERY STRESSED!

Manchak, first of all, congratulations! But regarding your concern about the Xanax, I don`t think that it will have harmed the baby but check with your doctor, although I`m sure that he/she will probably say no seeing as you were on such a low dose. Try not to worry :)
Anyway, I hope that things go well for you and I bet that you will soon be `blooming`. :)
Take care,

Hello Manchak,
First off congratulations. Secondly, I did a quick search online - found a post from a woman who was scared she had harmed her fetus with xanax. She reported that her ob gyn dr had said they used to think it could harm the fetus, but the latest word on it is that it can't. Obviously this can't by any means be taken as 'the truth' as it's what someone else had said their doctor said, although I thought it might be a little comforting until you get the chance to talk to your own doctor, which I suggest you do. In your shoes I would stop taking the xanax until you talk to your doctor.
You are clearly experiencing a lot of anxiety around your symptoms. I can't remember if you've ever seen a neurotologist, or if you have a firm diagnosis. Often being unclear about what is actually wrong and not getting a firm diagnosis adds hugely to the panic. If you haven't seen a neurotologist I suggest you find one and make an appointment. From you posts it sounds like you definitely have an inner ear disorder, but it would help you psychologically to hear it from a professional who can run the correct tests. They can also probably find you help with dealing with the anxiety around your symptoms of lightheadedness, especially now you will be going through a pregnancy. Maybe some cognitive behavioural therapy. A neurotologist has a few more years training on top of ENT training and is very specialised in the field of dizzy disorders and the type of symptoms you have. There are specific tests they do to see if your ear is damaged and then they can often advise types of phsyio to do called VRT.
I think the sensation you have that you are going to faint is the anxiety you experience as a result of the inner ear disorder. It's important that you are able to go out and about, get your mind off this, stop worrying. I do think a diagnosis and some reassurance would make all the difference,
best,

Manchak99,
I haven't checked the boards in a few days and look what I missed! Congratulations lady...what great news!! I know how scared you are M...really I do. I wouldn't freak out too much about the Xanax, just stop taking it until you speak t the doctor. There are plenty of people out there who have taken plenty of "things" prior to finding out that they were pregnant and have had no issues because of it. You found out you were pregnant early enough and everything I'm sure will be OK with the baby. Do you have any updates? Have you seen the doc yet? How are you feeling? I'll be sending lots of positive feel good vibes your way. Stay focused on the positive side...you're going to have a beautiful, healthy baby. Take it one day at a time. Try not to think of the what if's. The past is gone, the future is imagined and it's our neurotic minds that keep us holding onto them and ruining the present moment.
Keep us posted.
adrienne.

Manchack99,
I haven't been on in quite a while and today ran into your other post that ended with "check on this post". I'll give you my very edited version of my pregnancy and dizzies story:
At three months pregnant got bad dizzies that left me on the couch for three weeks. Recovered and could function normally with only bouts of dizzies. Toward the end, with hormone shifts, got more dizzy, but got LOTS of rest which helped a ton. After giving birth to the most amazing, precious, handsome, wonderful baby boy (see, it's all worth it!), the dizzies got unbearable and with the lack of sleep and hormone shifts I ended up getting VERY anxious and depressed (combo postpartum depression and dizzy depression). After four months of nursing I decided that I wasn't doing any of my family any good by nursing and being miserable, all I wanted was to feel good and enjoy my baby. I switched to formula and began Lexapro which helped TREMENDOUSLY with EVERYTHING. I am now fully functioning (before I couldn't even get out of the house without having a panic attack because I felt so dizzy, spacey, rocking, and like I was going to pass out any second, everything was so distorted). Each time the LExapro was upped, I noticed symptoms going away. I am still on it but hope to ween off after my next appointment.
Needless to say I still have my days, but all of the suffering I went through was SOOO worth it. Many many people have illnesses and suffer greatly and we just have to push through (I know, easier than it sounds).
I am not at all trying to scare you, but no matter what happens during your pregnancy (it could get better for all we know), you WILL be fine and it IS worth it all. My son is the love of my life and I wouldn't trade anything I've been through for him.
About the Xanx, I was taking .25 for a while while nursing and it had no effect on the baby. It's such a low dose that you really shouldn't be concerned. I wouldn't continue to take it without your doctors approval, but Ir eally wouldn't worry... like someone else said, perfectly healthy babies are born under much worse circumstances.
I too am freaked out about having another baby. I keep telling my husband that I want to adopt becuase I am so scared of bringing back my symptoms. And if you have the heart for that, that is another way to go. But I think I will give it a go when my baby is a little older (he's 9months now) and see what happens. I have a loving family that is willing to help if I do fall ill again.
ps I was never given a diagnosis, either migraine, I have a very long history of them, or inner ear damage from a respiritory infection. AND my migraines disapeared during pregnancy!!! So that was a posotive. You just really never know what will happen. And you will be a wonderful mommy. As long as you are loving your baby will ALWAYS love you even if you aren't able to do everything you thought you once would do with your children. Babies love their mamas!!! The babe is ready for a nap now. Please keep us posted. I'll be praying for you and thinking about you!

Congratulations
Migraine & hormonal changes definitely go hand in hand. However, it can go both ways. Some get dizzy and migraine headaches during pregnancy, but others have their dizziness and migraine headaches go away during pregnancy. And as Dizzymommy has said above, a combination of both is also possible.
When dizziness fluctuates with your cycles, or with pregnancy (but particularly when it gets worse around cycles-this is very common), there is really no other diagnosis to consider other than migraine.
