I have a foul smelling discharge from my right ear.
I'm 23 years old, and male.
At around 11 I was diagnosed with a cholesteatoma (during an exploratory surgery), and was immediately operated on further. The operation was a mastoidectomy.
Later I had reconstructive surgery. The ear has always given me problems. There has been a foul smelling discharge ever since. My Doc says this is normal... as with the mastoidectomy procedure there is a mastoid bowl left in the ear canal that collects skin and wax... the risk of infection is also higher.
Anyways. I've noticed lately that the amount of discharge is much much greater. Normally I don't have any collection on the outer part of my ear... if anything I have to use a Q-tip to get to the junky stuff.. I know! Not recommended!
Perhaps if I stop using qtips to clean the gunk out it might quit producing it?
The color of it is brown.
I don't have the normal symptoms of an ear infection.. (fever, pain, lessened hearing)
I am very suprised of this, however- because of the amount of fluid that seems to be in there right now.
I'm going to an immediate care place tomorrow to see what they have to say.. but they will probably just give me antibiotics... which I don't want, and I don't think I need.
Hmm.. I guess I'm just complaining here.
Just hoping anyone has any related experience.
Also- a day after I had major drainage, I started feeling short of breath.
I was yawning a lot that day, and popping my ear...
it felt like I couldn't get enough air.
This has continued to this day. I'm a smoker as well.
Another thing that happened was my girlfriend had a lung collapse.. a pneumothorax.
Be reminded my shortness of breath/gasping for air and not feeling like I was getting it started around the same time as my ear drainage... or a day after... and within a couple hours I received the news of my girlfriend's collapsed lung.
Stress related?
help.
(there is a slight pain associated with the ear, but it is not as great as the amount of fluid should merit)
could seasonal allergies be a contributer to all of this?
