Hi Everyone,
I would like to know how long will it take Norvasc to start working. My BP fluctuates a lot. Ranges are 140-180 to 85-115. I started taking it yesterday 1 tablet 5MG. I also take Xanax .5mg 3 times daily for anxiety.
Thanks,
Ali

Let me know whether the Norvasc makes you agitated.
I think it should work, if it works, in a week or less.

Hi,
I started getting headache and feeling real tired after 3 days on this medication. Is this a temporary side effect as the body adjusts to the medication or I should contact my doctor for a change of medication?
Thanks,
Ali

Personally, I hate the stuff, so anything I say might be slanted.
If you think you are having side-effects, stop for a week and see if they (the headaches, tiredness) go away. Then restart and see if the symptoms comes back.
Is this the FIRST hypertension med you've ever tried?

I was on it for about a week. My doctor might as well have prescribed a sleeping pill.

Hi,
This is my first medication for hypertension. I am feeling very very tired and confused and want to sleep all day since I started this medication. I do take NASID for my arthritis condition that makes me drowsy but I feel like this medication is causing me other problems.
Could you please elaborate on your comment that you hate this stuff?
Thanks
Ali

Ali,
First off, it's inapppropriate (or worse) for the doctor to prescribe one of the most expensive, patented drugs first. Nobody can tell me that it's not solely becasue of Pfizer's generous inducements to your doctor. In some circles this is called bribery but in the medical community it's "business as usual."
I found that a month of Norvasc had me climbing the walls with excess amphetamine-like energy and nervousness. It was very annoying and I couldn't get any sleep. It also exerted very little control over my blood pressure. I rate in among the 3 worst drugs I've ever taken for anything and I've tried a bunch.

Hi,
I contacted my doctor and he told me to stop the medication and prescribed Propranolol 200mg twice daily.
I have an echo-stress test next week and was told not to take the new drug after the test.
Thanks to everyone for their inputs. I would appreciate any info on Propranolol as well.
Thanks
Ali

Ali,
Whoa,
that's a LOT of propranolol.
If I took that much, I wouldn't be able to walk!:D
If you get exhausted you might want to cut WAY back...maybe 40 mg. 3times a day. (We'll talk when you startt the propranolol.)
