My grandmother was diagnosed today with lung cancer ( I don't know if it's small cell or non small cell, I'm working with 3rd hand information...) that has spread to her lymph nodes. She was told it was non-operable. She does not want to go to a second opinion.
I am currently undergoing treatment for rectal cancer myself (I'm 28). I'm being treated at MSKCC, and I really like all my doctors and feel confident in the treatment I've recieved. However, she isn't up to travel to their NYC campus, and I'm not sure if they consult for lung cancer on the LI outpatient treatment center. (It's about an hour/ hour and a half travel to the NYC center).
Does anyone know any reputable cancer doctors on Long Island that she could get a second opinion at? What questions should we be asking? What can I do for her? She's 78 years old, smoked for a long time, and has a heart condition, and a history of strokes.
thank you for any advice you can give me...
