For the past month i have had throbbing veins in different areas of my body. I've mentioned this to my doctor and he told me to come back in a month and track where they happen. At that time I had told him they happen about 10 times a day, but after tracking them I realized how often it happens, and im averaging 40-80 times a day.
After about 1 1/2 weeks of tracking i've noticed it mostly happens in my thigh (top, bottom and side) and my neck (both the left and right side). It also occurs in my stomach (both sides, in the middle and just under ribcage), calfs, forearms, biceps, triceps, and back. Sometimes I will notice a pain over my heart like hearburn, but it also happens on my right side as well. Seems to be muscles.
Sometimes its throbs enough that i have to rub it. The throbing only occurs four about 1-3 seconds and doesnt seem to have any relative time variables. It fraeks me out sometimes, and sometimes it doesnt bother me. It's jsut weird that its happeneing on a daily basis for about a month now.
I noticed it started after I was taking prevacid, so after about 2 weeks i stopped using it. havent used it for a good month now and still the throbbing occurs.
I don't know what this could be from. I'm 21, 5'9, 180 pounds. I smoke occasionally, and work a desk job 8 hours a day. I have noticed that if i am active i don't experience them, it's more so when I'm not moving much, wether its sitting or standing.
i'm worried that my appointment is still 20 days away. if anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Nick

I'm currently having the same pains! Just random sharp, throbbing pains in my veins across my body. Wow...at the bodyparts you mentioned I have have them too. But it also feels as if my blood is just "rushing" through them for 1-5 seconds that causes them to throb. And I'm 19, 5'11, 160lbs

well the doctor thinks i might have Fibromyalgia. Doesnt think it has anything to do with my veins.
i had a blood test today, and if the results come back not so good, then more testing wil lbe done he said. he mentioned to be checked for hepatitis. :(

Well thats good that he doesn't think its the veins. What was wrong with your blood test if you dont mind me asking? Also..ask him if it is possible that these pains could be potential blood clots or narrowing of the arteries.
I'll ask the same when I see my doctor.
Thanks for the update, keep in touch.

Yes, my shoulders feel sore sometimes and my neck feels swollen. I read that thread and my problem is more related to yours. My muscles don't twitch, or maybe they do, but like you said its in a very small spot and it feels like a pulse that is just going crazy for a few seconds. My doctor told me that its nothing to worry about and that I need to get my mind off it since all of my blood work was normal. He didn't have any other suggestions (I went through some heavy duty blood work, they drained me dry)

yes! the swollen neck feeling! i have that too. i ahve noticed a swollen gland in my neck, about an inch or two down from the back of my ear. i may get him to check it, but its tiny, so im assuming its a gland.
but yes, read my post in general health about low magnesium levels. its something that usually doesnt get detected in blood tests because it mosly resides in cells not the blood.
im taking suppliments right now and taking a multivitamin. they say it takes about 6 weeks to notice anything, so we'll see what happens in 6 weeks.
do you ever get the twitch/pulse in your sides? like side stomach. or in the middle stomach area. i get them in lots of places. foot, calf, thigh, butt, forearm, bicep, tricep, neck, back.

yeah bud! everywhere..but it literally feels like its a vien that is spasing out with a strong pulse. i get them in the middle of my stomach, sometimes on my ribcage. the ones i get often are forearms, calves, thighs, triceps/biceps, butt, NECK, back, and wrists. my neck has been swollen on and off for the past few days..its not my muscle i don't believe...it looks like my cateroid arteries are swollen. i can see my neck pulsate easily now.

wow! thats EXACTLY what i have! EXACTLY. and its freaky as hell. the one in the middle of the stomach is the freakiest. and the neck. the others i can deal with.
they never happen though if im active.

can u tell me a bit more about yourself.
are you overweight?
how tall and how much do u weigh?
do you smoke?
what do you do for a job? is it a sit down all day job?
how is your diet?
have you ever had gastroentenstinal problems?
have you ever taken Prevacid?
are you on any medications?
do yo
u have any other problems?
have you noticed a small bump on the left side of your neck about an inch or two below the ear? might take some feeling around.
the reason I ask is becuase that is EXACTLY what i have. now im back to being convinced its my veins. it happens right where the veins would be!

yes, my doctor did A LOT of blood work and checked for almost everything. everything came back normal.
I'm 19 years old,
160lbs
not overweight
semi-fit
non smoker/drinker
student...sit down for about 70% of the day (class/study)
health nut, only drink water and no fast foods
no gastroentenstinal problems
no prevacid
on a diuretic for fluctuating BP (normal at morning, high during the day)
had no health problems until 2 months ago. ( i passed out due to chest pains/shortness of breath, been to 3 doctors and tons of testing and everything is normal..they say my heart is normal and healthy)
been having these pulse sensations ever since
small bump, yep, just noticed it since you mentioned it...has me worried now!
i know what you mean about the veins...its right on TOP of the veins...i've actually caught it a few times on my thigh and my stomach and you can see it spasing out and "twitching." if only i could record it and show my doctor. i see my cardiologist next week...im going to ask him about it. my biggest concern right now is my neck...it bothers me to know my cateroids are swollen (if thats what it is).
i don't think its a magnesium problem for me since i eat a lot of tuna....im convinced its my veins, my doctor will have to convince me otherwise!

wow. I was just about to write again. I read all your other posts and its is pretty much identical to my problems! this problem has been going on for about 2 months now. about 5 months ago i had the pinching feeling in my chest, but it was more so on the top.. like the skin. i dunno if that has anything to do with it, but as far as i can remember that was when i first starting getting nervous about some things my body was doing.
its true, i have yet to feel 100% again since this has started. I have noticed that being active and running/jogging is the only time i feel somewhat normal. i have no problems when im moving. and generally im better for about a day aftewards. (bad circulation?)
ive also noticed it goes away when go out for drinks. ????
anyways.
write me back. i have yet to hear from the blood work
oh hey, that bump... is it possible is the thyroid? could we have overactive or underactive thryoid problems? how can we find out?
noshoes
04-28-2006, 11:24 PM
ill admit that now i FEEL a lot better than a few weeks ago. now all i have is occasionaly sharp pains in my chest, these weird pulse spasms, and my swollen neck with the lump and occasional headaches.
they do a simple blood test for thyroid, i've had 3 since my incident that were normal. however, when i passed out, my levels were borderline high.
thats a good question since i haven't taken one while my neck has been swollen. i think we should both ask for a thyroid level test, and ask for the full screening one that checks all levels and types for thyroid.
but yeah, i feel best when i cycle/do exercise too and it gets worse if i sit/lay for a prolonged period of time i honestly think its a cirrculation problem.
i just hope it isn't that peripheral aterial disease (narrowing of all your arteries) i've heard that one of the symptoms of this is swollen cateroids. but i don't think its that extreme...or atleast i hope not.

thats the thing. if it was the case, we would be having a lot of other problems.
it seems like we have the exact same thing. How long have you had this going on?
yea the lump in the neck is weird. feels like a gland, soft but tough to the touch. doesnt hurt, i just happen to notice it when i was rubbing my neck.
i was afraid that these problems were originally coming from something i did. smoking, drinking, something i ate? i mean who kknows, maybe its some weird virus that will go away after a few months?
I do get headaches as well, but not the typical headaches. more like the swollen feeling in my neck but on my head. ??? I've also notice that when a good one comes, like as if its haveing a tough time passing through the veins, i can feel it in my head.. could just be me reacting to it but yea.
i've also noticed that my vision sometimes becomes blurry for a split second, or my eye actually spazzes out and i try to refocus.
do you ever get the feeling that the one pulse that happens in your stomach... right by the sternim, i have that pain too, but u do u ever get that pulse there and it just feels soooo weird.
Well, as far as tests go, i should know the results next week. if it goes through clear, then i go back in a month to report any changes to my doctor. if the test is clear, then i will get another done that screens everything.
if the tests come back not so good he said there are a few other tests he will want to do.
the last time i did a test, my liver enzymes were high. my ALT and GGT. not too serious but higher than they should be. he's looking into that as well. he had mentioned getting tested for hep, as that is a liver problem, and the liver is around that sternum area..... but ive had the immunization shots when i was in school... i dunno...??? its a weird werid thing. sometimes i feel depressed or bummed out. sometimes I feel great.
you mentioned your throat hurt. felt like it was tightening right? mine does that too. i find it hard to swallow actually. sometimes i can feel a pulse right there, just where it connects to your chest....weird.
if you stretch, does your sternem area hurt a bit?
im glad i found somebody. i've had this post up for awhile now and no one every answered.
keep me updated with anything u find out.

yeah i know, i posted about the same thing and nobody replied, im glad i found your post. i've had it for about 2 months now. im pretty clean so i don't think i caused but...the day before i passed out i was an hour away from home in a community that was surrounded by construction. the people on the heart forum thought it could have been something in the water...or a virus like you said.
my headaches also feel different..and like you said about your eyes, i get those with the headaches as well. sometimes, its like i can see my pulse through my eyes and it makes me see blury with each pulse...but i dont know if thats just me.
my throat literally feels like somebody has their hands around it (tight) and sometimes it just burns from the bottom all the way up to my head. it feels as if the blood is having trouble passing through, so it burns? i can see my whole throat pulsate sometimes.
yes i get that stomach one too..i had it just 5 min ago when i woke up. that one almost hurts because its so strong.
when i stretch or bend my neck side to side it nurts at the base and up the neck. so i don't know bud...i'll just have to wait til i see my cardiologist and then i'll let you know what he thinks.

Hey, guys. I have something similar...but not quite the same? I frequently have only what I can describe as a strong pulse/heartbeat feeling between by throat and the bottom of my sternum...right down the center of my chest, several times per day. Unlike you all, it's the only place this sensation happens for me and it's also accompanied by an occational "lump in the throat" and/or muscle twitch sensation that makes me think I'm having skipped heart beats. Oh, and I get a twitchy eyelid or bicep every now and then, but I'm pretty sure that's stress or anxiety related.
I also have the swollen gland in the exact same place you are describing. It's a lymph node, not your thyroid, if it truly is only an inch or two below your ear like mine is. I've had mine for 10 years and my Dr says it's nothing to worry about given the length of time with lack of other symptoms or blood markers...probably from the bout of "walking pneumonia" I had when I was 19.
Keep us posted on what you find out with your "throbbing veins" situations. I'm curious to hear the results.

Well, no word on my blood test, everything seems to be fine. I've been taking magnesium to see if its my electrolytes, but still have a few weeks to tell if its helped. It hasnt been as often, but its still happening.
I've seen muscle twitch but this is not the same. It twitches to a pulse. It's gotta be my veins. I dunno!
God when will it end.

Pika,
The lump is a lymph node. Unless its bigger than a centimeter, has a read mark, or begins to hurt, then you should let your doctor know.
Check yourself for other englarged lymph nodes (armpit, just above the groin, do a google to see other places). Generally they enlarge if your fighting a cold, sore throat, nose infection, etc. I wouldnt worry too much, and I wouldnt poke at it too much (that will case it to swell as well). As long as your doctor isnt concerned, and you mentioned the ultrasound said nothing, you should be fine.
Do you have the throbbing vein problem? Do you have problems sleeping?
I seem to be very restless when I try to sleep, even when I'm exhausted. I've also noticed that my urine is sometimes very bright yellow.
I have a check up in a few weeks again to see if anythings changed. Let me know of your progress. Have you had a blood test?

Just noticed another thing thats been bothering me for awhile. My nose isnt ever dripping blood or anything, but if i stick a cleanex in it, I notice blood on it. It's been like this for awhile now. I can blow my nose and no blood is seen in the mucus, but if i stick a kleenex up there, sure enough there is some blood. My nose doesnt hurt though, nore does it feel plugged. any ideas?

It wasn't a lump. It is a jump (throbbing). It vibrates up to my jaw. Recently, I have many blood test done. Last week I had a gastroscopy done too. My blood test is a mess.
I woke up quite often in the middle of the night but I fall back to sleep very quick. (Like a dead cat) I felt the missing beats, kept waking me up. Last sunday, I felt no heart beat, as soon as I opened my eyes, the beat came back. The reason that I opened my eyes was: I still can see and no dizzy. I went back to sleep. Next few of the same things but I didn't open my eyes. I just went back to sleep straight away. I'm very silly!

These are the exact same problems I've been having, nicknamefig, almost exactly. Unfortunately, my doctors have found nothing either, except for a mildly elevated bilirubin, which the GI specialist said shouldn't be anything to worry about. I have been trying to cut caffeine out of my diet (I also don't eat meat, but normally take iron/B12 supplements). This is truly becoming to the point of unbearable (not the symptoms, but being constantly told that nothing is wrong). I saw a cardiologist (nothing wrong there), and my lungs are fine. I was tested for HIV, and I was negative. And, I too have noticed that these feelings go away when drinking. Have you heard anything further? I almost feel like a complete annoyance to my doctors and friends, as these problems seem to be overtaking my mind.
Do you get any tingling in your hands or feet? Or does your legs and arms appear to go numb easier than usual? The dizziness/light-headedness is really frustrating.

nothing new. the throbbing veins have now been identified as twitches. small twitches. they only occur when i am not moving. (i sit at a desk all day)
i too had my heart checked. nothing. HIV, nothing. Hep, Nothing. Blood tests, nothing. the only thing my doctor noticed was that my liver enzymes (ALT AND GGT) were elevated but nothing was found during an ultrasound. The next step is to get a CT Scan.
The twitches have began to become more frequent. let me know if anything comes up and i will do the same for oyu.

really?! hmmm. i have no idea if i will even get CT Scan. I have a followup with my Dr. on the 20th to see if i still have the twitching. we've done a ******** of tests so i am just assuming that a CT Scan would follow to check for neurological activity

Year ago, ultrasound showed I've a very early fatty liver. CT scan in April 06, it didn't show because I refused the dye to be injected. Then the ultrasound in June 06 showed still having the fatty liver. The blood ALP is above the range. No follow up and no treatment! Is that the Dr got nothing can do?
I get a lot of tingling in my hands and feet. It wakes me up 4-5 times in a night because it goes numb (those hands and feet went into sleep)! I feel my head gets numb too. Do you feel that as well? Dr said my dizziness/light-headedness is caused by the anemia. The neurologist sent me to the "electrical conduction test" it showed normal. Again, he got nothing can do.

hello, i'm new here. i cant believe there are others going through the same thing i'm going through. i have been having problems with my veins. i was told it was phlebitis and it would clear up on its own in a few weeks but it only gotten worst. i am in pain everyday and the doctors do nothing. they cant seem to figure it out. it started out with my left arm going numb and falling asleep. then veins in my left calf started to stick out with pain and lumps in my left arm along the vein. all my veins are coming to the surface through out my body. veins in my left hand will stick out at times and cause pain. these seemed to all start about five or six months ago when became a vegetarian. people keep telling me its because i stopped eating meat. i dont think thats it. some days i feel like i'm going to die. i feel that i have blood clots in my surerficial veins that they havent looked for. i have had test on my legs to look for DVTs and nothing was found but nothing done on my arms. i also have these little red (blood) dots through out my skin. a few on my arms and a few on my chest and a few on my legs and more keep coming up.
has any one heard anything yet about their problems? thanks, Adam933

It turns out the problem I thought to be in my veins is actually coming from my twitching muscles. My doctor thinks that it's possible I have a pinched nerve somewhere... and I think the only thing that fixes that is massage therapy. I'm going to see him again tomorrow -- perhaps I'll find out. He also said a lot of these problems may be due to anxiety.

Oh jeez.
I (sort've?) feel so much better knowing other really young guys like me are experiencing the same thing.
I use to get the throbbing a lot as well but never thought anything of it. Then about a week or 2 ago, everyone at work decided to start losing weight. So I decided to join in. Instead of eating a egg and cheese sandwich at work, I opted for cereal and a banana. I started taking One A Day vitamins and stopped eating candy at work.
Then bam, the twitches became painful. Like REALLY sharp pains in my finger. And slight pains in my arms, thighs, foot and buttocks. Today my arm started going a bit numb and I started freaking out. I've been reading up on different things like thrombosis and etc and all these problems seem to exist in older people.
By all accounts, minus activity (I work in an office 10 hours a day and come home to work on art/music), I am fairly healthy.
- I have little to no stress
- I don't eat a lot of sugar, fat, etc
- Don't smoke
- Drink socially
I've gained a few pounds and probably am less active than I was 2-3 years ago. So, you can imagine me freaking out. Thankfully I ******d my symptoms and found this thread. I am trying to get a doctor through my health care plan at work. This is kinda freaky and even more odd since all of you are tested for everything and can't seem to find answers.
Hopefully I can schedule an appointment soon and shed some light on this for myself. I seem to also get pains and throbbing when I am physically or mentally inactive. I tend to be listening to music 24/7 so my mind and heart rate are always going. Whenever I relax or get out of the shower, I can feel it. In fact, I feel it now.
Maybe I'll get up and jog in place...

it was copper poisoning from the taps.
