I recieved my blood work tests and Keppra came back lower this time, at 58. Down somewhat from 6 months ago when it was at 62.
Have any of you on Keppra noticed problems in sleep, obtaining enough sleep, or getting to sleep, sleep cycle etc?
I seem to have issues of this nature now. Have not before. I've been on Keppra for atleast 6 years.
I am on Keppra, Tegretol XR, and Topamax.
by accident I missed my night dose last night and for the first time in over a week managed to get 5 hours of good sleep. Wondering if there is a corolation between the levels of Keppra and Sleep.

I'm on 1500mg Keppra and 800mg Tegretol XR in the morning and 1000mg Keppra and 600mg Tegretol XR at night. I haven't had any problems sleeping or getting to sleep.

I'm on 2,500 milligrams of Keppra twice daily, as well as 1,800 MG's of Trileptal. I have no problems getting to sleep...Quite the opposite really. If you're not already, try taking it at a set time every night then waiting an hour or so before you try and sleep. Hope that helps.

Wow 5000 of Kepp and not noticing problems? thats good to hear.
Anyway.... I have had problems where I'll get off cycle and be going to sleep at 5 AM and waking up at 1 PM. That can take close to a week to get back on track. Usually I need to pull a long day and a half to get back on track. That I think is Topa not Keppra. (maybe BOTH interacting?)
This was not getting the regular sleep. I was going to bed and couldn't fall asleep. If I was failing to fall asleep I'd pull out a book and read for 30-45 minutes then try again. Something that doesn't tax the mind but makes you tired.
If I wasn't on meds I'd try something to help me along, but thats playing with fire being on the epilepsy medications. we SHOULDN'T need any assistance getting sleep. I had never needed help with sleep in my past, EVER.
Last night (well, this morning) was another story. I had a gut feeling and turned on the scanner. There was a 6 alarm fire up in my city (6 precincts on site). Don't ask why I thought something was up. It was on the oppposite end of town and never heard a siren. Had to turn it off and go to sleep before I knew the entire story.

Hello.....This is my 2nd post. I've had seizures for nearly 30 yrs and just within the last month I've gone to a new Neurologist who started me on Keppra. I had been taking Tregretol but it just stopped working. I started the Keppra at 250 mg for the first 3 days and then on the 4th day was to increase to 500. The mg of Keppra looked just like the vitamin I've been taking, and I accidently overdosed within 2 hrs. :nono: Boy! Was that a mistake! Within an hour or so I felt like I had been plugged in an electric socket! From the top of my head to the bottom of my feet and had muscle cramps, one after another. With this reaction I had to come off the Keppra and start on Lamictal. This is my fourth day on it and so far so good. The seizures are more or less under control....but I keep waiting for another new reaction to a new medicine. What can I expect?! LOL
Hope you're doing well....Marge

You are now off Keppra and on Lamictal correct?
Lamictal if it isn't for you, watch out for a rash like symptom on the skin. That is a MAJOR WARNING to call the Dr right away. One suggestion if this occurs is loose clothing (not skin tight) and a very neutral soap, such as dove, that does not irritate your skin, or whatever soap is best for you, be it a natural soap or what have you.
I was on 800/day at 400AM and 400PM (I think, if not more) of Lamictal with my levels comming back indicating I was not taking the dose. I ended up being taken off of Lamictal under the impression it was not working for me.
Keppra they usually up at 500mg/week and MOST patients can take it. Some need to increase with the 250's, or even split the 250's if problems are shown. Not every patient can take the 3000 max recomended dose of Keppra that a lot of the dr's like to push us to.
I was on Lamictal polytherapy (with 2 other drugs) for a very short time. In my case it didn't work. Neither did many other drugs or combinations for my body. Thats just my case history.

The only time I could sleep through 3 bulding fire alarms back when I was on Teg Depa and Dilantin (the yo-yo drug effect for me). That was with the Dr from CrackerjaxU. I don't need THAT again just to get sleep!
