Hello Ladies,

I'm new here and have been struggling to find some answers for quite a while. Quite frankly, I'm driving myself nuts! I'm hoping you ladies can answer my questions...

Here goes. I am a 28 yr old female who had mild dysplasia 4 years ago which was removed by LEEP. This December, I started bleeding here and there, in between periods. I had also been experiencing pain during sex and bleeding for a couple of days after sex. I didn't really think much of this at the time because it had been happening only once in awhile. Then I started noticing a change in my discharge~there was a lot more of it (still clear) and it was kind of watery. Still didn't go get checked. When my bleeding began to become more frequent and heavier, I thought I had better go. My Dr. told me that my dysplasia was back, however, when I asked him how bad it was he only said that we would treat it with LEEP again. (he's not much for bedside manner). This was in February. Since then, I have had a lot more bleeding, along with being extremely tired (like when you're pregnant and want to crash at 8 at night). This is Thursday and I have been bleeding since Friday. My insides feel very raw and are burning and irritated. Yesterday at work I passed some kind of orange tissue about the size of a quarter.

Here's where I need the help...everywhere I look it says that dysplasia isn't supposed to have any signs. It says that you're not supposed to bleed, etc. I have a friend at work who had the dysplasia which was removed by LEEP and then a few years later she started to bleed non-stop at which time her cervical cancer was found and she had a hysterectomy. I'm really freaking out here because I feel so raw in there and can't seem to stop bleeding. It's not my period. I am absolutely terrified because I am a smoker (I know, it doesn't help things) and I can't seem to find a website that talks about bleeding with dysplasia. I'm scared that it has turned into cancer.

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me:
~anything you know about dysplasia and bleeding
~if anyone with cervical cancer who had dysplasia first had these things going on
~what it feels like physically to have cervical cancer
~how long it took for dysplasia to turn into cancer

I will be getting my LEEP done tomorrow and am so very scared to go in there because things have changed so much since I saw him last. There is a history of this in my family and I've had this once before. I also read that smoking accelerates dysplasia into cancer.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. I can't seem to find anything about bleeding with dysplasia. For anyone who replies to this, thank you so very much for taking the time out of your day.

My then 19 yr. old sister had bleeding with severe dysplasia (CINIII). You CAN have signs like the discharge, pelvic pain, etc., but that does not mean it IS cervical cancer. It could just be severe dysplasia or even something entirely different. I had watery discharge & pelvic pain, w/ some spot of blood every now & then, but I didn't think it was anything. I ended up having carcinoma in sit (CIS) treated with a deep LEEP. Try to focus & stay calm. I know it's easier said than done. We've all been there, so stay positive! You will be in my thoughts.

You're thoughts were useful. I think I will check out more information on severe dysplasia to see what I come up with. You're right, it is absolutely terrifying to just sit and wait for this LEEP to happen especially when things have gotten so much worse since I last saw my Dr. I really appreciate your reply. I just wanted you to know that I did have cancer and I'm fine. I never had any symptoms. I actually had no idea that anything was wrong with me. I just went in for my annual. I had never had an abnormal pap in my 11 years of going to the gyn.

One thing I must, must, must say to you is to find a gynecological oncologist. If you are the least bit concerned that you may have cancer (or even severe dysplasia), it is wise to consult with a gyn-onc. They are specialists and have 3 additional years of training in cancers. Seeing one was the best thing I did for my health. Besides that, it sounds like you may need a new doc anyway. Bedside manner is just as important as knowledge. This is all of course just my honest opinion; I hope I didn't step on any toes.

I hope things work out well for you. Remember to trust your instincts! :)

I don't have anything to add - these fine ladies already gave great advice - I just wanted to say I'll keep you in my thoughts. Let us know how it goes for you.

I knew I would be able to get some help here. My LEEP is today at 3:15 and I'm nervous. A friend of mine is coming with me since my husband wasn't able to get the time off work. I'm hoping that all will go well. Tinker Belle: I'm glad that you are fine now and I hope you will continue to go to the doctor on a regular basis.

You were right when you said I needed a new Dr. but I stick with him because he does really know what he is doing and is extremely well-known throughout the city. His manner sucks and he tends to get after people for being overweight, like he did with me both times I was pregnant. But like I said, I put up with the other crap because he really knows a lot about what he does.
