So I am starting phase II soon. I was wondering if anyone here had to wear a bite plane with lower braces as part of their phase II? If so was it effective? Did it help with TMJ function or pain? Are top braces always neccessary after the biteplane? Sorry for so many questions, I am feeling very apprehensive about having to wear the braces. Thanks.

Hi:
I couldn't really tell exactly what you were trying to ask here but the orthodontist I see does braces one jaw at a time for his TMJ patients. So when you have an upper splint he has the braces on the bottom teeth. He then makes a lower splint and puts the braces on the top teeth. He says he does it that way to make sure he always keeps the jaw supported to avoid further problems. It seems to be a pretty good way to work it.
