I have at least 30 grand in unpaid medical bills and future tests to go. I have been denied insurance because of a benign bone tumor and mild social anxiety disorder (woo ha). What is a person supposed to do because I know there are millions of people like me who cant get insurance. I mean are we all just screwed for the rest of our lives or is there a way to get high risk insurance or something?
I asked the insurance company if I could sign an agreement that they were never liable for anything related to the tumor or mental health and the lady just kept saying well if you tumor grows you would need surgery and we can't cover you...I just want coverage for everything else!

You can get insurance through your states welfare or disability program if you aren't working. Otherwise it is really impossible to get private insurance.

Alas, the only option is to emigrate to a first world country that has medical insurance. Third world countries like the United States are only for the wealthy. :D
Then there IS Massachusetts...the governor just signed a bill guaranteeing (and REQUIRING) medical insurance for all residents.

Here in Michigan, Blue Cross individual polices will cover pre-ex after you've been covered for 6 months..........check with your states Blue Cross, maybe they have the same policy?

Not in Michigan.............No riders and no health question. ALL pre-ex will be covered after 180 days on the plan. NO underwritting.

Insurance laws vary by state and upon review it appears MI has a modified guaranteed issue clause. BX is an insurer of last resort and HMO's must offer open enrollment for 30 days every year. Some, but not all products are available under the MI guaranteed issue provisions. Based on what I have seen in other jurisdictions, the coverage must be rather expensive.
Michigan Individual Care Insurance rate link:
Zero deductible 70/30 to $2500
RX covered at 50%
180 day waiting for pre-x
No underwritting

When replying to a post it's not always necessary to reply with a quote.
)If you are the first person to reply to a thread quoting the post is not needed.
)If you refer to the poster by name, quoting the post is not needed.
)If you are clearly responding to the last poster, quoting the post is not needed.
)If it's obvious who you are responding to, quoting the post is not needed.
If there maybe some question as to what post in the thread or what part of a post in a thread you are responding to, using the quote feature is fine. But, in doing that please don't quote an entire long post just to answer one question. Please only quote the part of the post you are responding to.
Using the quote feature when it's not neccessary clogs up threads, can make the pages longer than they need to be and takes up server space.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I know exactly how you feel! It is SO frustrating. I have around $3,000 in unpaid medical bills for ONE ER visit. I don't have the money to pay for them, and I tried to get Unicare's Sound Health plan (geared towards people age 19-29, so it can be "easy" for them to get insurance) but they denied me because I have a heart rhythm disorder which is in no way serious, and like you- I have an anxiety disorder. I attempted to get Medicaid and they said if accepted, they will pay for medical bills incurred within the 3 months prior. Well, they can take up to 45 days to respond, and by that time the 3 months will have passed.
Sorry I have no real advice, just wanted to let you know that I understand part of what you're going through.

To clarify Medicaid:
Medicaid does pay for any medical bills incurred 90 days before date of original application, plus the entire time till they make the decision.
So Mitbee ----Say if you apply today 6/12/06 and you get your approval letter on 8/28...The letter will say that you were approved on 6/12/06 so they will pay for any medical bills that are allowed under their program from 3/12/06 on.
If you have unpaid you just send them the bills to pay and if you have paid them you send proof of payment and they will refund it to you.
