i went to go get a hearing test done today and it came back normal. although one thing did happen when i was there. they did a test where they put pressure in my ears and on my right side i got really dizzy when she did it and i asked her if that was normal and she said no. i also had an eng that showed a weakness in my right ear.

ive had this now 7 months and wondering if a Perilymph fistula is an option. i know one of the tests they show for that is putting pressure in your ears and see if you get dizzy from it.

any thoughts??

Just checking.

By any chance this "pressure" thing they did to you, did they use a headphone like instrument with a deaf "headphone" on one side and something like a "probe" with a light, wich they put into your ear and it makes a "humming" sound?

Or how did they tested you for ear pressure, or ow did they put the pressure thing to you?

it was during my hearing test where they had head phone on and the put pressure in one ear at a time. my right ear was the one with the problem that the eng showed and i got dizzy when they did that

Yeah I think that is the same instrument, it puts pressure, in one ear at a time and then the results come out in a chart, am I right?

I mean like a headphone on one side and a "probe" like end on the other, the one wich they put into your ear, wich has a light and emits a "humming" type sound?

Is that it?

By the way, with this test the neuroto told me I've had both ears inflammated, and that was the most proballbe cause for my strong decomp.

Nevertheless I can tell you that this tes didn't get me dizzy at all... But from that to a Perilymph fistula I donīt know, but sounds quite difficult because those thing heal by themselves with rest, and you didn't experience head trauma or somehting, am I right?

no....just thinking out loud i guess. so even if it was that....they heal by them selves? well thats good i guess.

Perilymph Fistulas (PLF) don't always heal by themselves, as I have found out myself, and I would like to revive this topic to get input from any people who may be fellow sufferers. In my case the cause was an acoustic trauma in June 2004, and my dizziness (really disequilibrium or unsteadiness: feels like I've had too much to drink) has gradually gotten worse since then after a series of loud sounds, etc. I've had the conventional Fistula Test (negative), and also a CT scan (negative), but can't tolerate the sound levels of much of the other audiological testing that's been tried, without much luck. Most otologists don't believe in PLF, but the one I wound up with thinks I have one.

My pattern is (typical of PLF) that I am worse if exposed to loud sounds (sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently, and it takes less and less, sounds easily tolerated by normal folks), or if I strain to lift something (now greater than 20 lb or so). I wear earplugs in the car or if in a noisy environment, and can only tolerate so much exposure in a given day.

Is anyone else dealing with this sort of thing? Do you know of any diagnostic tests to confirm the PLF, other than audiological? Do you know of any repair process, other than the conventional approach, which is to take the ear apart surgically and place tissue around the oval window, which I understand is only 50% sucesssful? Any input would be appreciated.
