Hi All

As you probably all know Ive been at about 98% until ten days ago when I got a bad headcold. It has left me with an achinh jaw/left ear when I eat and my dizziness has gone wild.I almost feel as bad a s when it first started.Im really concerned my good ear has a NEW bout of labs and all my progress is down the toilet.Ive had 4 months of work and am going back monday and am really upset this has happened as I wanted to feel vaguely normal going back.

Do colds really screw you over like this, anyone expereinced the jaw thing with a head cold?

Im just really worried it is goin to take months to get back to where I was.

Not sure how much more I can handle of this...Im always so postive but this has made me feel like its never going to go.

Sorry to whinge...any advice appreciated.

Hi DR,

Yup, colds can really do nasty things but it doesn't last. Even though it feels as bad as the original attack it definitely isn't. I've had a decomp hit that felt as bad as the first time but evaporated relatively quick. Try not to worry about it...give it some time and you'll return to where you were before the cold.

Cheers....Scott

Without taking this as a Dx..

You sound like you may also could be developing some sort of TMJ, because of the stress of getting labs again from this cold gave you.

This of course will add to the decomp equation and you'll feel worse. Not only because of the aching jaw I tell you this, because myself from a a cold, got (yeah, me too)a huge decomp, and when I visited the neuroto, she told me this, and I didn't even felt much of a pain in the jaw, I just couldn't open it wide...

Relax, keep it up(and believe me, I know how hard is it), and wait for the cold to go away, and you'll eventually feel better.

Hi Dizzyrascal

Yes I can confirm that a cold brings it all back. I caught a cold recently and decompensated quite badly, for a couple of weeks feeling very off balance, more so than I had ever felt. This decompensation period lasted for 6 weeks and I am now back at work though still off balance, some days worse than others. It's all part of this illness, perfectly normal!

Hi again DR - just wanted to add more to this. I have been moving house for two days. Tons of physical work that I haven't done for ages (at least 3 months) and last night in bed everything went nuts again. Waking with heart palps, sweating - the works. All because I've stirred it up with the exercise/lifting/running around. Many things can do this but fortunately they diminish in strength over time.

i had been feeling good for about a month, and then for no reason my lightheadedness came back too. felt just as bad as when i first got it. i didnt think i was under a lot of stress or anything, but then i talked to my vestibular therapist, and realized that i HAVE been under a lot of stress lately, especially because my finals are coming up and im worrying i wont be able to go to grad school because of my dizziness, can that cause it to return this badly?
