Hello,
my husband got the reports from his CT scan yesterday and it says that he has an 8mm juxtapleural nodule in the anterior segment of the left upper lobe. The doctor said they will just check it again in year. Can anyone tell me exactly what this means?

He does have sarcoidosis which is very stable and gives him no problems. The dr. also wrote a diagnosis of COPD on his sheet but gave him no other information - I think this was diagnosed because his pulmonary function test showed " increased airway resistance and decreased specific conductance which indicates a central airway disease." "There was no significant response after bronchodilators" The diffusing capacity was not correct for the patients hemoglobin.

The dr. seemed unconcerned about all of this - I just don't know if it needs to be looked at further. Thanks for your help. Bern

Based on my recent experience after my annual physical, the doctors here tell me they usually don't do anything except watch nodules that are smaller than 10mm (1 Centimeter). I have a nodule that is 19 x 20 mm and they have attempted a biopsy and did a PET scan on which I am awaiting results. The docs think it may be malignant but have told me it's at a very early stage. (So I'm on pins and needles)

I was also diagnosed with COPD a year ago, and like your case, it was not specific. (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) This year the doctor told me I have emphesema in the middle lobes of both lungs. He also told me that COPD is not always emphesema. Depite all of that, my lung capacity remains at 102%, so I am not feeling any of the effects of that. Apparently, COPD can be managed quite well in a lot of cases by avoiding dust, fumes and other lung irritants along with a good diet and exercise.

Hope I helped and I wish you all the best.

Hi Grand Rapids,

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I also want to say that I am sorry that you have to wait to find out about your nodule. That must be very difficult and frustrating. I will say a prayer for your health and well being. Take care and best of luck to you. Bern
