I do I also have the feeling that something is tied around under my neck - like a string that goes from one ear, under my chin to the other ear. I also get sleep apnea if I sleep on my back. Swallowing is also difficult.

HI,
Does it feel as if your neck is swollen under your chin? My neck throat area always feels swollen but its not. I've been diagnoised with lpr gerd but no amount of any meds makes it feel better. So I'm beginning to think its tmj. I've had alot of dental work over the past 2 years including periodontal work. It seems since I had my back right molar on the bottom pulled and the tooth in front of that one, my symptoms began. I have a full ear feeling, hard to hear, jaw achiness, a lump in my throat feeling, slight headaches. I think I'm clenching at night too. But the worst is the feeling from ear to ear and under my chin. What do you think? Any advice is appreciated...............

thanks
Patti

We seem to be on the same path. I have had a lot of dental work over the years - when I broke a bridge my periodontist referred me to another dentist (I should have went back to the one who made the bridge) and I noticed my bite started to change the more work he did and I began clenching as well. I also started to develop sleep apnea. The tmj started 1 week after he filled the upper back molar and I haven't been the same since. I have been diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia and have gerd as well. One minute my ears feel stuffy, next minute everything is too loud or there is a ringing or hissing sound in them. My jaw aches all the time as well as under the chin in the throat area - I have the lump in the throat feeling too. Does under your tongue hurt? My tongue always feels arched upward or twisted. Have you tried an upper cervical chiropractor? If the C1 vertebrae or atlas is out of alignment it can produce tmj like symptoms.

Hi,
No under my tongue doesn't hurt, but at times my tongue feels like its burning and swollen and the sides have like bite marks on it. The feeling of a lump in my throat has been there for almost 3 yrs. It appears to me, that my looks have changed around my jaw and throat area. I have a slight overbite that was never fixed. Your right about the ears. Sometimes the tv or radio seems just too loud but no one else thinks so. Then other times I can't hear my husband real clear in the car. Oh what a mess this is..... Some days are worse than others for symptoms. I'm starting to feel like a hypochondriac. But this feeling of a swollen neck and jaw drives me crazy...........

The first time I mentioned my face and throat area looked different, the dentist gave me a referral for a psychiatrist. But my chiro believed me - he said all the bones in your face, head and neck area can move as a result of tmj. It has to due with your whole body alignment. My right cheek bone is now much higher than my left and my right eyebrow is always arched up higher than the left and my nose looks different. I never knew anything like this could happen. But its nice to know others have similar things going on - maybe I am not crazy afterall.
