Hi,

I have had constant imbalance now for 5 years,i have had the usual tests,MRI and caloric stimulation. Both came back normal with a slight degradation in hearing in my right ear.

My ent consultant has offered me to have tempory grommits fitted in my eardrum she reckons excess air pressure within the inner ear can cause my symptoms and there is a possibility the grommits can help.

Has anybody had these fitted and if so did they help their symptoms,is it a large op,any advice would be great.

Thank You

This thread is a little older, but i think it may help answer your question.

I had a tube placed in the left ear only, in oct 2005, removed jan 2005 and was not a good experience. Now my experience seems to be a-typical, but I feel people should know some possible complications. For most people though, the tubes/grommits do help.

I had mine placed in the ENT's office, and it took maybe 5 minutes. Nothing to it really. He "deadened" my ear/eardrum with a local and them proceded to place the tube. Not everyone has the same experience, normally it is a rather quick procedure with minimal pain - mostly just uncomfortable.

Good Luck :)

Angela
