Hi Star:
It will be over, and you'll be on the road to recovery, before you know it! Hang in there, we're all pulling for you!

Your idea of staying in the hospital for more than a day if you need to is right on. I had my second surgery 1 year after the first, and I did it a lot better the second time. The first time, I thought the nurses would be giving me pain meds when I needed them, and didn't realize you have to ask. Made for a real tough night and first couple of days at home. The second time I knew to ask for them, and would do so the first time the 'wonder if its time for more?' thought crossed my mind. I had a lot easier recovery the second time, the consequences of being in pain affect the whole body, not just the operation site.

Since you are also having a surgery to get your own bone, you'll have two locations to deal with. The pain meds you get in the hospital are more effective than what you can get when you return home, and staying an extra day or two if you need it makes sense to me.

Best luck for a successful operation and a speedy recovery - let us know how you are doing.
Bob

Hi Star,

I'm sure you'll be just fine. Try not to worry about the hip thing. Look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Star,

I wrote your name on my calendar to pray for on Tue. nt. & Wednesday.

I was in the hospital for 3 nts. & doc only let me go cuz I told him I wanted to go home so bad. (I can't sleep in there...too much going on. Morphine is cool, tho. hehe.)

My hip's almost back to normal, except my upper thigh still has a big ol' numb patch. I don't even think about it cept when I have my hands in my pockets & one thigh I feel & the other I don't. :D

Take advantage of the rest you'll be forced to take during this time. Watch movies to take your mind of any pain & if you think you won't make it thru the 1st night at home....trust me....the 2nd nts. better....3rd even better & so on. You'll be just fine, Star.

May God bless the surgeon's hands & give you peace.

Love,
Jackie (We'll be the hip-sisters!)

Starlight, can't wait to hear how you are. I had C4-6 ACDF 12/04 and have decided to go ahead with 2nd surgery as well on May 1 for C6-7. I had donor bone the first time and did well so we are going that route again. My need is because of osteophyhtes in the formin and stenosis. I too am hoping number 2 is easier! So I can't wait to hear. Get Well Soon
