Now I gotta tell you whats been going on with me for the past week. (its long) My throat starting hurting tuesday night so right away I went to the doc cuz I knew it was strep. They took 2 culures one instant one and one overnight. they both came back negative. Meanwhile my throat is getting worse and worse but they say its only a virus and some nurse is like "yea its allergies" I'm thinking to myself i know what allergies is and its not this. Motzei Shabbos I was in extreme pain so I went to the doc again. The doc takes another culture and its negative. I tell him somethings going on what are we gonna do about it so he says sorry its viral nothing to do about it take tylenol. Fine no problem. so in the meantime every night i wake up with terrible pain and I say to my hubby let go to the hospital this is way too much for me to handle and for some reason in the end we never ended up going . so till Tuesday afternoon I'm poping pills every 31/2 hours instead of what the bottle says (4-6) cuz I'm in so much pain and i was taking so much tylenol that it was begining to lose it wasnt really working on me anymore.. Then yesterday a friend came to plug our oven for pessach and i could barely talk and hes like why dont u gargle some vodka itll kill whatevers there. so i say, listen if it helps im on it. i went to gargle vodka and i cant describe to you how much my ears were hurting cuz of the vodka. So I called the doc again and i told him the tylenol isnt working anymore what do we do now? I went in to see him again he looks into my throat and he starts cursing.........now I'm wondering whats going on its not very day you have doctors cursing at your throat. He tells me I have strep!!!!!!!! all the cultures came out negative cuz it was behind my tonsils and when they take strep the take in front of the tonsils. I think my ears almost fell off at this point. but the story gets better..............p.s. I hope i have entertained u for the day !!!!lol.............then he tells me i have so much puss in my throat i have to go to a specialist and he will stick a needle in the puss and drain it all out. ( all this cuz of that stupid doctor who doesnt know how to check for strep!) now he wants me to go to a really good specialist in manhattan but hes not sure the docs take my insurance. so casually he mentions i will have to pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at this point i really wanted to chew his head off cuz this could be a 500 procedure were talking about. so I spoke to my hubby and i told him its the doctors mistake and I think he should pay for a specialist. so thats it for now i'll keep you updated. the worst part in all of this is that i've had strep for ONE week and i was in soo much pain and a stupid doctor cant figure that out! I mean take a blood test or someting! do ur think your a doctor for g-d sake!

Bella - you have to see a good ENT specialist. I have never, ever heard of puncturing pus in the throat with a needle!! What about antiobiotics? Passover is hard enough to prepare for - not easy if you're sick. You should have left your doctor after going there so many times and not getting a clear answer and relief from your throat pain. Sometimes sore throats are caused by viruses, and sometimes it's streph.

Yes, that's what they do if your tonsil is abscessed. Did he say it was abscessed?
Because if it is, then you need help for it now.
Also, if you have an abscessed tonsil, than a tonsillectomy down the road is usually recommended, as once your tonsil abscesses, there is a high chance of it happening again.
