Oh my...I can completely sympathize with all of the dizzy sufferers out there! I am struggling at this very moment with my vertigo. I have had severe vertigo now for 8 days and I feel just awful. I was lying on my couch 8 days ago and I started to feel dizzy, I sat up and then felt it even more. I thought I should go lay down and when I went to stand up I felt instantly worse. I felt like someone hit me in the head with a sledgehammer. I had to have help getting to the bed. My balance was off; I was stumbling like a drunk. Then came the nausea. It was unbearable. It went on and on with no end in site. My sister called the doc and I went to an appointment where the doc said that I had labrynthitis. She sent me home with Antivert and told me that I would feel better in a matter of days. (I should mention at this point that I was getting over a cold.) Well needless to say that I have not gotten better. I have gone back to the doc now so many times and was given all different kinds of shots, phenergan and an antibiotic shot. I just had a CT scan today and have yet to get the results. What will the CT confirm exactly? Will they be able to see the labrynthitis? Will this ever get better? I haven’t been able to work since this all started. I can’t keep anything down and I cant even go to the bathroom by myself. It is so humiliating. Please, please, at this point I am looking for some glimmer of hope.
Thank you so much.

Hi Moon

The CT scan---is just part of the medical procedure---the Doc's use---to pin down the cause(exclude other reasons--really)---its just part of their medical cook book---for this junk---think just about everyone who post here has had one---for most(99.xx%) it gets better---can take some time---but the amount of time varies---no two people---are a like when it comes to this stuff----

If u go to the "sticky" post---there is tons of info---great videos---focus on Lab & BPPV

Hope u feel better today then yesterday...

Hi Moon,

To echo what Subs said, check out the video from the link to Dr Rauch's site called "Vestibulat Compensation". Recovery from this sort of inner ear injury (ie, inflammation from labyrinthitis) goes through three stages: an acute period (which you are in now), which may include severe vertigo and vomiting, followed by approximately two weeks of subacute symptoms and rapid recovery, and finally a period of chronic compensation which may last for a while longer. This chronic compensation period is definitely nothing like what you are experiencing now. It should settle down very soon.

Best...Scott

 Thank you Scott and Subs...I got the results of my CT which over course were normal. I am still in the worst of it, and it is so frustrating!! and I think that the worst part of this whole thing is that my GP keeps telling me, "You really should have been over this by now. Labrynthitis only last a few days, maybe up to a week." Grrrrrrrr! She makes me feel like this is all in my head. And worst than that is the people who dont understand all that is going on because I "look" fine. I feel like just terrible! Im so tired of feeling this way. I truly feel sorry for all of those people who suffer with this for years. And I pray that I am not one of them. Im supposed to call her tomorrow and let her "know how I am doing" I would like nothing more than to go back to work and maintain a somewhat normal existence.
Sorry for all of the venting---just feeling alone here.

Hi Moon,

If your doctor keeps telling you it should be over in a week and has no deeper understanding than that, I think it's time to find another doctor who can understand and give you support. You shouldn't have to be the one educating them but with this stuff it tends to be that way unfortunately. You only have to watch Dr Rauch's video and read through some of the links or just read through the stories here to realise that there is a chronic compensation period involved following an inner ear injury that can last from months to years.

Hope you feel better soon....Scott
